Dear President Metsola,Dear President Michel,Dear President von der Leyen,For several months we have followed, with increasing concern, the progress of the proposal on a packaging and packaging waste regulation (PPWR). We are businesses from a wide cross-section of the European economy – generating billions of euros for the EU economy and millions of jobs. While we fully support the overall goals of the Green Deal, we are worried about the unintended consequences of the proposed PPWR legislation for the environment, the economy, food safety and consumers. It is because of these concerns that we have decided to join forces to create a new cross-sector alliance: Together for Sustainable Packaging. While the Commission has conducted an initial impact study, we feel it currently lacks depth and in particular does not consider economic and food safety aspects. However, there are now several high-level independent studies, conducted by highly recognised experts such as Kearney, and Ra...South Korea restores Japan on trade ‘white list’

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea formally restored Japan to its list of countries it gives preferential treatment in trade on Monday, three years after the neighbors downgraded each other’s trade status amid a diplomatic row fueled by historical grievances. In announcing the move through a government gazette, South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy also said Seoul will further restrict technology and industrial exports to Russia and its ally Belarus to support the U.S.-led pressure campaign against Moscow over the war in Ukraine. After years of friction, Seoul and Tokyo are working to repair relations as they tighten their three-way security cooperation with Washington to counter the threat posed by North Korea. Pyongyang has used the distractions caused by the war to accelerate testing of nuclear-capable missiles. South Korean officials expect Tokyo to restore Seoul as a favored trade partner too, but expect that step to take more time based on the procedures to re...Australia plans major overhaul of defenses as China rises

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia needs to spend more money on defense, make its own munitions and develop the ability to strike longer-range targets as China’s military buildup challenges regional security, according to a government-commissioned review released Monday. The Defense Strategic Review supports the so-called AUKUS partnership between Australia, United States and Britain, who in March announced an agreement to create an Australian fleet of eight submarines powered by U.S. nuclear technology.Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his government commissioned the review to assess whether Australia had the necessary defense capability, posture and preparedness to defend itself in the current strategic environment.“We support the strategic direction and key findings set out in the review, which will strengthen our national security and ensure our readiness for future challenges,” Albanese said in a statement. The public version of the classified review recommended Austra...A ‘Walk for One More Heartbeat’ event raises nearly $49,000

Long was DFA’d after the Stevenson deal, and arrives with the same “cash considerations” designation. It’s basically a swap of of players with Northern California ties, as Long attended Del Campo High in Sacramento County before going to Sacramento State and Stevenson played at Kennedy-Fremont before playing at Chabot College, Arizona and Nevada.Long, 26, pitched in 40 games for the Giants in 2021 and 2022 with a 3-4 record, 4.55 earned run average.
