GREEN BAY, Wis. — Dalton Risner got the start at left guard for the Vikings against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field. It marked the second straight start for Risner as Ezra Cleveland continues to miss time with a foot injury.Though it’s unclear if Risner will hold on to starting spot when Cleveland returns, he’s looking to force the Vikings into a tough decision. After signing with the Vikings last month as a free agent, Risner has been biding his time in practice, trying to overtake either Cleveland or Ed Ingram on the interior of the offensive line. He finally got his opportunity last week and helped the Vikings impose their will on the San Francisco 49ers in primetime. If Risner is able to put together another solid performance for the Vikings against the Green Bay Packers, he could be looking at more playing time in the near future. The other inactives for the Vikings included running back Kene Nwangwu, linebacker Brian Asamoah, cornerback...Other voices: Schools should ban cellphones

Ask any parent about the time their kids spend on mobile devices, and you’ll likely hear the same refrain: It’s too much.Excessive use of smartphones and social media is linked to rising rates of teenage depression and self-harm, while also damaging students’ academic performance and exacerbating achievement gaps. At this point, the question isn’t whether phones should be banned from classrooms, but why more schools haven’t done so already.Evidence about the negative effects of mobile devices on learning is overwhelming. Large-scale international assessments have shown that anything beyond limited use of technology in the classroom harms academic performance. A 14-country study cited in a U.N. report this year found that merely being in proximity to smartphones disrupted learning for all ages, from preschool to college, with poorly performing students suffering the most.Prompted by findings like these — and common sense — the British governm...St. Paul’s go-to playground designers take a big cue from the disabled

Jill Moore’s wheelchair doesn’t prevent her from exploring parks, playgrounds and other public spaces. In fact, as an inclusive play specialist for Minnesota-based playground designer Landscape Structures, she’s developed an expertise in noodling through landscapes that able-bodied people sometimes take for granted, searching for access opportunities and impediments designers might have overlooked, or as she puts it, “connecting the lived experience with the design.”On Friday, Moore was scheduled to accompany a deaf woman, a blind man, a man with autism and a powerchair user who is non-verbal on an “audit” of sorts through downtown Minneapolis, focusing on Nicollet Mall, Peavey Plaza and the Walker Sculpture Garden. Their goal was to make sure that disability access means more than just a ramp wide enough to carry Moore’s wheels.Undated courtesy rendering, circa October 2023. CU Buffs QB will keep getting crushed if Coach Prime doesn’t start running the darn ball

PASADENA, Calif. — What good is a Louis Vuitton quarterback if his handles keep falling off?“It’s a struggle to run the ball,” CU football coach Deion Sanders said after a 28-16 loss to UCLA inside a Rose Bowl with thorns, the Buffs’ fourth defeat in five games. “And we’ve got to figure that out, because now you’re one-dimensional. And it’s easy to stop a team when they’re one-dimensional and that’s who we are at this point in time.”Shedeur Sanders, the coach’s son and the offense’s only hope, needed an injection for the pain at halftime, thanks to a bruising bunch of Bruins and seven sacks allowed. The kid wouldn’t need a shot if he wasn’t taking so dang many of them in the pocket, week after week.Run the darn ball, Coach Prime. For your son’s sake, if nothing else. From a play-calling front, the Buffs are too dang easy right now. PASADENA, Calif. — Jimmy Smith, Chidobe Awuzie, Ahkello Witherspoon… Travis Hunter. How does the fourth belong with the latter three? Hunter, the Buffs’ two-way breakout star playing his first season of Division-I FBS, is on the fast-track to join those other names as a high-drafted cornerback out of CU.Hunter put on another eye-opening defensive performance Saturday in CU’s 28-16 loss to UCLA at the Rose Bowl, with two first-half interceptions that helped give the Buffs an early lead. The sophomore snuffed out the Bruins’ first drive of the game by intercepting Ethan Garbers to set CU up for a field goal that made it 6-0. On the 3rd-and-5 play, Hunter was in man, press coverage on Kam Brown at the line of scrimmage, but after jamming Brown, Hunter intuitively jumped off him and into space when he recognized Bruins slot receiver Logan Loya was running a short button-hook to the first-down line.Hunter dove and picked off Garbers’ pass, then popped up...4 children found with 'lacerations' at Lancaster home; 2 dead
