Mets’ Quintana out until at least July with rib injury Left-hander José Quintana won’t make his New York Mets debut until at least July because of a stress fracture in his rib.The Mets are relieved that the prognosis wasn’t even more severe.Mets general manager Billy Eppler told reporters Tuesday a scan revealed a lesion on the impacted rib. Quintana went to New York to visit an orthopedic tumor specialist for a biopsy and additional scans that revealed the lesion was benign.“This was bigger than baseball,” Eppler said. “José’s got our support and anything he needs. I’m just really thankful we’re at least here as opposed to one of the other potential outcomes.”Eppler said Quintana will have an operation Friday in New York that involves a bone graft. Eppler said recovery from the surgery will keep Quintana out until at least July 1 but didn’t offer any specifics beyond that.“A lot will depend on if José, how soon he can do physical activity, how much down time does he need after this procedure,” Eppler said. “Does he need to take a week,...

Oats steers Alabama to March Madness in a turbulent season Nate Oats is steering Alabama through the best and most scrutinized season in Crimson Tide history. The former high school coach and math teacher seems to have found the right equation for success on the court, twice cutting down nets to celebrate titles and leading the Crimson Tide to the No. 1 overall NCAA Tournament seed.Oats’ biggest challenges and most-questioned decisions have come off the court, where critics have piled on even as the wins piled up.There’s no coaching handbook on how to handle one of your players getting charged with capital murder in midseason while two others were involved, including one of college basketball’s biggest stars in AP All-America freshman Brandon Miller. Oats is not second-guessing his decision to keep playing Miller and Jaden Bradley.“The fact never changed that we were going by what the police told us, that they were cooperating witnesses,” the 48-year-old Oats told The Associated Press in an interview this week “So based on everything we know...

US Rep. Santos files paperwork for possible reelection bid NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. Rep. George Santos filed paperwork Tuesday indicating his intent to run for reelection, even as he faces calls to resign amid ongoing criminal and ethics investigations into lies he told while running for office. The filing with the Federal Election Commission does not necessarily mean that Santos will run for a second term, but it allows his campaign committees to continue raising money, some of which could be used to pay future legal bills. Money he raises could also be used to repay more than $700,000 that he claimed to have loaned his campaign. The New York Republican has admitted to lying about having Jewish ancestry, a Wall Street background, college degrees and a history as a star volleyball player. But serious questions about his finances have also surfaced — including the source of what he claimed was a quickly amassed fortune despite recent financial problems, including evictions and owing thousands of dollars in back rent.Santos, 34, has referred to the...

Why is California getting so much moisture and Colorado isn't? COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KXRM) — You may have seen the pictures of the historic rain and snowfall out of California recently and you may have heard of the term "atmospheric river." But what exactly are atmospheric rivers and how do they affect what we see in Colorado on the Front Range?Atmospheric rivers explainedAtmospheric rivers are just as it sounds, a large river of water vapor high up in the atmosphere, and some people even describe them as "fire hoses" pointed at the West Coast. These "rivers of moisture" carry lots of water from the tropical regions near the equator toward the poles and are massive in size. Atmospheric rivers can be roughly 250 to 375 miles wide, which is roughly at least four back-to-back trips from Colorado Springs to Denver. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, depending on the size of the atmospheric river, can carry eight to 15 times more water than the flow of the Mississippi River. The large rivers of water are ...
