The last time the Toronto Raptors were relevant for playing basketball, as opposed to being relevant as a reliable content provider for the NBA’s never-ending off-season news cycle, things didn’t end well.To rewind: Toronto’s 41-41 regular season culminated with a ninth-place finish in the Eastern Conference, earning the Raptors the honour of hosting the first play-in game, which they promptly lost to the Chicago Bulls in large part because the home side shot an unfathomably inept 18-of-36 from the free throw line. The lasting image was Pascal Siakam finishing off an otherwise exemplary game — 32 points, nine rebounds and six assists on 13-of-22 shooting — by missing three free throws with 12 seconds left, and the Raptors trailing by two points. It was the Raptors’ season in a nutshell — and Siakam’s too. The team over-promised — the plan was to build on the 47-win season of 2021-22 — and under-delivered. This school year, the district decreased the number of consecutive days a student can be absent without giving notice to the district. "Anyone who sort of disappears, if you will, on us for five days, and they're gone, we can un-enroll them," Hays CISD spokesperson Tim Savoy said. Previously, the rule was 10 days. "If you have to be out for whatever reason, and you let us know, then you're not going to be taken off the books. This is just for people who we cannot reach after multiple attempts to try to reach," Savoy said. He praised the group for continuing work for each other and ignore the outside noise. He sprinkled in some colorful language toward the end as a way to hammer home the point that there is still a lot of work to be done. How will the Vikings respond to their first win? That is the real test.Truthfully, the Vikings beating the Panthers shouldn’t be overly celebrated, because, well, they were supposed to win that game. Then again, the Vikings were supposed to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this season, and they couldn’t do that, so at least they are showing signs of improvement. There needs to be a continuation of that when the Vikings host to defendi...Wilder Forest land sold to local foundation after Catholic youth camp plan falls apart

Pablo López learned of the Twins’ miserable recent postseason history very shortly after an offseason trade from Miami. One of the reasons he stumbled onto it, he said, is because his boyhood hero, Johan Santana, was the last to pitch the Twins to a playoff game victory. That game was on Oct. 5, 2004. The very next day was the beginning of heartbreak and disappointment for the Twins that spans 18 games and is the longest playoff losing streak in North American professional sports. While many of the Twins players on the current roster, López included, have not been on the team for any of those games, Twins fans have been waiting patiently for 19 years. And a number of players, López included, have not been shy about talking about it, ready to tackle it head on.In the moments after the Twins clinched their American League playoff berth on Sept. 22, infielder Kyle Farmer proclaimed this was the group that would get the organization’s first postseason win since 2004, ending nearly two dec...Latest news
