French people love to eat frogs — or so the stereotype goes. But one fair in the city of Vittel in eastern France has gone too far, environmentalists warn, with visitors being slated to consume some 7 metric tons of frog legs over one single weekend. The cause for concerns centers around how most of the frogs the thousands of visitors get to taste are imported from easterly locales, environmentalists said.“For this event alone, up to 350,000 frogs are caught, especially in Indonesia and Turkey, where frog populations are already in alarming decline,” Charlotte Nithart, of French nongovernmental organization Robin des Bois, said in a statement. “In the EU, such a nature looting coupled with such cruel killing methods would not be allowed, so the logical consequence must be to stop imports.”Sandra Altherr from the German group Pro Wildlife said in the same statement that it was an unnecessary practice. “Do the visitors know that for their snacks, frogs are amputated alive on the...NH police investigating two car crashes at same mile marker

(CNN) — Residents of a South Florida condo building have been ordered to evacuate by Tuesday after the building was deemed unsafe during its 60-year building recertification.During an inspection on April 14, a building engineer found the Majestic Isle condominium building in North Bay Village had sagging floors and termite damage and deemed it structurally unsafe.A recent leak from a roof drain caused a partial ceiling collapse last week and residents from five units had already been evacuated, according to a release from the city. The Majestic Isle building was built in 1960 and has 36 units with about 55 residents, the release said.“It’s the first time we’ve ever had a situation like this in North Bay Village,” said Mayor Brent Latham. “Everyone is working very, very hard to respond and lend a helping hand in this crisis situation for some of our neighbors,” he said late Thursday.Latham said he is working with Miami-Dade County officials an...Here’s the player the Jets should target with the 13th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft

What a difference a year makes.Last year, Gang Green selected three impactful players — Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson — in the first round of the NFL Draft. The Jets also selected dynamic running back Breece Hall in the second round and he looked to be the favorite to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year before tearing his ACL in October.A year later, a cloud continues to surround the Jets. More than a month after Aaron Rodgers announced his intentions to play for the Jets on “The Pat McAfee Show,” there continues to be a standoff between the Jets and the Packers on trade compensation leading up to the draft. Reportedly, Green Bay wants an unconditional first-round pick for Rodgers, while Gang Green has been reluctant to part with a first-rounder.Although a trade for Rodgers could be reached during the first or second round of next week’s draft, the Jets aren’t expected to part ways with the No. 13 overall ...Catch a ride on 'The Beach Bug' this summer in Pacific Beach

NEW YORK (AP) — General Motors is recalling certain Chevrolet Silverado medium-duty trucks for model year 2019 or later, following the discovery of a potential leak in brake fluid that could result in a fire.Potentially 40,428 vehicles could be affected. They include 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD models with model years between 2019 and 2023, according to documents posted by U.S. safety regulators on Saturday. The vehicles may have a brake pressure sensor assembly that allows brake fluid to leak and cause a short circuit. That in turn increases the risk of a fire that could occur when the vehicle is either driving or parked. GM advises owners with potentially affected models to park outdoors and away from structures until the recall repair is done. Vehicles with model years before 2019 used a different design. GM said it’s not aware of any injuries related to the condition. The Associated PressAkron temporarily bans use of nonlethal force on protesters

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in an Ohio city have agreed to temporarily bar the use of tear gas, pepper spray and other types of nonlethal force against nonviolent protesters, a move that comes after it was sued following a protest over a grand jury’s decision to not indict police officers who shot and killed a Black motorist.Akron officials and lawyers for the Akron Bail Fund — a group that supports protesters — reached the agreement late Friday after a federal court session that lasted for several hours. Bail fund officials had sought a temporary restraining order to block the use of nonlethal force, but the two sides instead agreed to a 14-day restriction that allows the litigation and negotiations to continue. The legal action came about after a protest Wednesday in which police used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse protesters after the gathering was deemed an unlawful assembly.Akron has seen a few protests after a state grand jury on Monday declined to indict eight ...What’s next for abortion pill after Supreme Court’s order
