US Census: 300,000 Bay Area residents returned to the office in 2022 More than a quarter of a million Bay Area residents returned to offices and other workplaces last year as companies across the region overhauled their pandemic-era remote work policies, a Bay Area News Group analysis of newly released census data found.Last year, 836,000 residents, or 26% of the five-county Bay Area workforce, said they usually worked remotely, down from 35% in 2021. Despite the drop-off, there were still more than four times as many people working from home in 2022 as in the years leading up to the pandemic, when just 6% of workers were mostly remote.In 2022, twice as many people — 1.7 million residents — drove to work alone as compared to those who worked from home. Three years earlier, just before the pandemic hit, just 200,000 worked mainly from home, and over 2 million drove to work alone. Teen arrested in connection to San Ramon car shooting (BCN) -- A San Ramon teen is in custody after allegedly shooting at a car filled with people Wednesday night on Bollinger Canyon Road, police said. The shooting was reported just after 10 p.m. on Bollinger Canyon just south of Harcourt Way, according to San Ramon police. Shots were reportedly fired from one vehicle toward another car that had five people inside, police said. The car was hit by bullets but no one inside suffered significant injuries. The suspect's vehicle was tracked down using evidence from the scene and the city's camera network. Stabbing in front of SJSU Early Thursday, police began covert surveillance on the vehicle and the suspect's home. Just after 1 p.m. Thursday, detectives arrested the suspect, a 17-year-old San Ramon resident, on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect will be booked into the Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall. Police arrest man suspected in Fairfield woman's disappearance, death (BCN) -- A man suspected in the death of a Fairfield woman reported missing last month was arrested Thursday night in the Sacramento area, police said. Mark Randle, 45, was taken into custody in connection with the disappearance of 36-year-old Erica Brown, according to Fairfield police. Brown was reported missing on Aug. 25 and was last seen at her Fairfield home on Aug. 20. Bay Area cities receive grants to fight organized retail crime, except Oakland Information gathered by detectives has led police to believe she is no longer alive, authorities said Thursday. "We extend our deepest condolences to Erica's family and friends during this difficult time and are committed to bringing Mark Randle to justice," Fairfield police said in a news release on Thursday. (AP) — Five adults and a 15-year-old self-described as “Soldiers of Christ” religious group members were in custody Thursday on murder charges after a woman’s body was found in the trunk of a car parked outside a popular spa in Georgia.Investigators said that someone reported the discovery Tuesday night outside of a Korean spa and sauna in Duluth. Authorities said the spa does not appear involved.The victim, according to arrest warrants, was starved and beaten for weeks before she eventually died. Her identity has not been released. Facing charges of felony murder, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence and concealing the death of another are Eric Hyun, 26, of Suwanee; Gawom Lee, 26; Joonho Lee, 26; Juoonhyum Lee, 22; Hyunji Lee, 25, and a 15-year-old, all from Lawrenceville.
