A man and his stepson die after hiking in Big Bend National Park in 119-degree heat (CNN) — Two people died Friday after hiking in extreme heat at Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas, the National Park Service said in a news release.A stepfather and his two stepsons from Florida were hiking the Marufo Vega Trail when temperatures were at 119 degrees, according to the news release.“The Marufo Vega Trail winds through extremely rugged desert and rocky cliffs within the hottest part of Big Bend National Park. No shade or water makes this strenuous trail dangerous to attempt in the heat of summer. Braintree teen, 16, and Dorchester man fatally shot in parked car Despite attempts by first responders to render medical aid, a local teen and a Dorchester man died after they were found shot multiple times while sitting in a car in Braintree.According to a release from the Braintree Police Department, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, officers were dispatched to the area of Alfred Road after several 911-callers reported gunfire in the area.“Braintree Police Officers arrived on-scene within seconds and located two individuals in a parked motor vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds,” the department wrote in a release. “A third person in the car was uninjured. Numerous life-saving measures were initiated by police, Braintree Police Department, Fire Department personnel, and Brewster Ambulance paramedics.
