(CNN) — Fleeing what she called the “dire condition” of life in Haiti, Dieuvena came to the US, hoping “she can at least get on her feet, find a job, and take care of her family.”For Dieuvena, 28, that family includes her husband Banel, 28, and their son Mateo Sebastien, 4. She also has a 10-year-old daughter who lives in the Dominican Republic with the child’s father. As she only speaks Haitian Creole and limited Spanish, Dieuvena spoke with CNN through Dr. Geralde Gabeau, the executive director for the Immigrant Family Services Institute. She asked to be referred to only by her first name, fearing she might be penalized by the US immigration system.Passing from Haiti through Central America, the family arrived at the US-Mexico border where they attended a CBP One appointment, the process through which US Customs and Border Protection grants humanitarian parole. The family of three attended the appointment as a group with five other Hait...Chris Perkins: How did Dolphins fare in the draft compared to AFC East foes? Let’s take a look

The AFC East got more competitive because of the NFL draft, an event which saw every team in the division acquire talented players that could contribute to a playoff berth and, in one or two cases, perhaps a playoff run.The grades are good for the four AFC East teams — the Dolphins, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots. They’re all bunched fairly close to a grade of ‘B,’ meaning no one was especially impressive, but everyone was at least a bit above average.A quick pause for the official disclaimer: Keep in mind it usually takes three years to fully analyze a draft class and these are first-impression grades. Now, back to business.Coincidentally, three of the four AFC East teams selected a defensive player with their top pick, and specifically a defensive player who largely helps defend against the pass — two cornerbacks and an edge rusher. In a division that’s pretty quarterback-heavy among the Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, the ...Dolphins undeterred by first-round forfeiture; Grier, McDaniel talk CB, RB situation, Taylor Lewan and more

The Miami Dolphins only had four picks in a second consecutive draft. The 2023 installment reminded folks about the organization’s wrongdoing to again own so few — and not have a selection at the top.Television coverage of the draft and local headlines this past week rehashed why there were just 31 picks in the first round and why the Dolphins were without one. Miami was stripped of its first-round pick, along with a 2024 third-rounder, due to tampering violations when the franchise pursued quarterback Tom Brady and coach Sean Payton.Dolphins’ decision-makers, though, made sure to put the punitive penalty, especially compared to past incidents of tampering across the league, behind them as soon as it came down from the league roughly nine months ago in early August.“For us, it was business as usual,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Saturday night. “You’re always going to have to deal with adversity in life, and when that happened, ...Bruins notebook: Looks like Jeremy Swayman will get the net for Game 7

Bruins coach Jim Montgomery would not say who would start in net for Sunday’s Game 7 after the morning skate Warrior Ice Arena, nor would he say what lineup changes he was going to employ. But there were clues.Jeremy Swayman was the first goalie off the ice, indicating that he’d get his first start of this post-season in the do-or-die game while both Nick Foligno and Connor Clifton were out on the ice late after all the regulars were gone, giving the indication that they’d be out and Trent Frederic and Matt Grzelcyk would be back in.Whatever decision Montgomery had to make at this precarious stage of the Bruins’ season, it was going to be a difficult one.“If you make a change at any position, it’s really hard, because we have a group that’s given everything to the team all year,” said Montgomery after the very brief morning skate. “And everyone wants to play in a Game 7. When you’re a kid growing up and you love hockey, whether you’re p...Boston warns about sewage discharge in the harbor: ‘Potential public health risk’

OTTAWA — The union representing more than 100,000 striking public servants says it’s made some progress on wage demands and job security during weekend negotiations with the federal government. The Public Service Alliance of Canada says its bargaining teams negotiated late into Saturday evening and continued on Sunday morning, the 12th day of the strike. The federal government tabled a new contract offer to the union on Friday, describing it in a Saturday statement as its final proposal.More than 100,000 union members walked off the job April 19 after the union and government failed to reach new contract deals for agreements that expired in 2021.Wages have been a major sticking point in the negotiations, with the union asking for 13.5 per cent over three years while the last published offer from the feds was nine per cent. The federal Treasury Board said Saturday its latest offer contains what it described as an enhanced wage proposal but offered no details. It also says its late...A powerhouse US doctor slain in Sudan, ‘killed for nothing’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bound to the country of his birth by ailing parents and his devotion to treating Sudan’s poor, American doctor Bushra Ibnauf Sulieman kept working as long as he could after fighting engulfed Sudan’s capital. For days after battles between two rival Sudanese commanders erupted in Khartoum on April 15, the 49-year-old Sulieman treated the city’s wounded. He and other doctors ventured out as explosions shook the walls of homes where Khartoum’s people cowered inside. Gunfire between the two factions battling for control resounded in the streets.“Say, ‘Nothing will happen to us except what God has decreed for us,’” Sulieman, a gastroenterologist who divided his time and work between Iowa City, Iowa, and Khartoum, said in one of his last messages to worried friends on Facebook last week, as fighting persisted. ”And in God let the believers put their trust.”The morning that Sulieman decided he had to risk the dangerous escape from Sudan’s capital with his parents, American...Arrest made in Minneapolis mosque fires that rattled Muslims

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis police arrested a man suspected of setting two fires that damaged mosques in the city last week as part of what the chief called “an attempt to inflict terror onto our Muslim community.”Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced the arrest of 36-year-old Jackie Rahm Little early Sunday but didn’t provide details of how he was apprehended. He was charged with second-degree arson after the fires were set on April 23 and 24 and an arrest warrant was issued.“Houses of worship should be safe places. Setting fire to a sacred facility, where families and children gather, is incredibly inhumane. And this level of blatant hatred will not be tolerated in our great city,” O’Hara said in a statement Sunday.Leaders with the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations praised the arrest after the fires that had unnerved the Muslim community in the area.“This arrest brings some relief to our community, which has been on edge for the past week,” said Jayla...‘Super Mario Bros.
