US senators see a glimmer of hope for breaking a logjam with China over the fentanyl crisis BEIJING (AP) — A group of U.S. senators visiting Beijing expressed hope Tuesday that they had opened the door ever so slightly to government talks with China on its role in the fentanyl crisis ravaging America.Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is heading the group of three Democrats and three Republicans, said Chinese President Xi Jinping had indicated he would consider Schumer’s request to appoint a high-level official for talks on the issue.“I asked him directly to do that, and he didn’t say no. He didn’t,” Schumer told reporters at the end of the delegation’s stay in China. “He could have said, ‘First, as we said before, first remove the sanctions.’ He didn’t say that.”China has refused to hold talks on fentanyl unless the U.S. lifts trade restrictions placed on a Chinese police forensics science institute in 2020. Pritzker's Chicago home; person in custody CHICAGO — A person is in custody after breaking three windows at Governor JB Pritzker's Chicago residence, according to Illinois State Police.The incident happened around 9:40 a.m. Monday at the governor's home in the Gold Coast. Troopers on the Governor’s Executive Protection Unit responded to a disturbance at the residence and searched the area with Chicago police.Police located and arrested the suspect who allegedly threw rocks at Pritzker's home, breaking three windows.Both the Governor and First Lady were home at the time, but no one was injured. 3 robberies involving rifles conducted in 15 minutes on NW Side, West Loop The investigation is ongoing and the suspect remains in custody. (NEWS10) -- A Cobleskill man was arrested after attacking someone with a hammer after breaking into their apartment, according to the New York State Police. Dennis Taylor, 37, faces multiple charges. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - Police are investigating a crash on Interstate 44 in St. Louis County that led to a road rage incident involving an apparent exchange of gunfire Tuesday morning. St. Louis County Police say two drivers reportedly exchanged gun fire in the eastbound lanes of I-44 in St. Louis County near Bowles Avenue. It happened after a crash during the 8 a.m. hour. Police say there was a minor crash between a pickup truck and another driver. The two cars continued briefly for a moment before both pulled over along I-44.
