(CNN) — Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, is considered the holiest day of the year for people who practice Judaism. The holiday technically spans two calendar days, because the Jewish calendar is lunar. Days are marked sunset to sunset. This year, it begins at sunset on September 24 and continues until the evening of September 25.‘Days of Awe’Yom Kippur concludes a 10-day period known as the “Days of Awe” that begins with the Jewish New Year, which is called Rosh Hashanah.Jews around the world are to face their misdeeds and sins over the year through worship and prayer so that they may atone for their wrongdoings. With fear and wonder in facing God’s judgment, Jews seek forgiveness. In doing so, people are called to self-reflect on their failings and flaws. No matter how you spend the day, it’s a time to atone in your own way, whether in a synagogue or at home. Synagogues hold religious services throughout the day for practicing Jews to come pray introspectively, either askin...Authorities ID woman found dead near Clearwater after gator is spotted with a body in its mouth

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner accused Patriots quarterback Mac Jones of taking things a little too far by hitting him in his “private parts” during New England’s 15-10 victory on Sunday. With the Patriots facing third-and-1 from the Jets 45 early in the fourth quarter, Jones pushed forward to try to get a first down on a quarterback sneak. He was stuffed by several New York defenders, but kept churning his legs after the whistle blew.Jones — who has been accused of a few dirty plays during his two-plus seasons in the NFL — got into it with several Jets players, and linebacker C.J. Mosley slammed the quarterback to the turf. When Jones got up, Gardner said the Patriots player bumped into him — and the Jets cornerback shoved him after he said he took an inappropriate shot below the belt.“He had got tackled,” Gardner said. “He reached his hand up to try to, like, get me to help him up. And I just moved his hand out of the way. ...GAME ON!

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The old sports cliche of a team "bending but not breaking," is of course rooted in a myriad of examples, and the Texas Longhorns defense certainly fits that bill so far this season.Baylor reached the Longhorns' red zone, the area between the 20-yard line and the goal line, six times and came away with only two field goals. Two of the times the Bears advanced the ball that deep in Longhorns territory were from muffed punts, but even when Baylor's offense marched it close, the Texas defense stood tall. Instant Analysis: Texas leaves Waco for final time with resounding victory over Baylor In four games this season, the Longhorns are tied for second in FBS in red zone defense, allowing opponents to score just five out of 10 times. Four of the scores are field goals and the Longhorns are one of just four teams that have yet to allow a rushing touchdown in the red zone. Europe retains the cup as the defending champion. The Americans last won the Solheim Cup in 2017.The Americans appeared to be in control of the Sunday singles session until Caroline Hedwall of Sweden won five of the last six holes to flip her match against Ally Ewing. That set the stage for Ciganda. She was all square with Korda until hitting it tight on the 16th for birdie, and then hitting a tee shot on the par-3 17th to 2 feet for birdie and a 2-and-1 victory. That assured Europe the 14 points it needed to retain the cup.
