LOS ANGELES — The Warriors will trot out their third different starting lineup in four games against the Los Angeles Lakers.Gary Payton II, who has been largely out of the rotation in the first three games, will get the starting nod alongside the usuals — Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green at center.“Five years ago we wouldn’t have changed the lineup unless there was an injury,” head coach Steve Kerr said. With all the game-to-game adjustments, things have changed now. The Lakers adjusted in their Game 3 win by having Austin Reaves defend Curry and Jarred Vanderbilt defend Green which, in essence, limited the pick-and-roll opportunities for the Warriors. Starting Payton can be the Warriors’ defensive counter by limiting D’Angelo Russell’s scoring opportunities; Russell scored 13 points in the first quarter last game.“Obviously his defense is excellent,” Kerr said. “He plays like a big but he ...You won’t believe how much Americans bet in the last 5 years

By Wayne Parry | Associated PressATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Americans have bet over $220 billion on sports with legal gambling outlets in the five years since the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for all 50 states to offer it, and the industry shows few signs of slowing despite some recent scandals that have put a spotlight on wagering safeguards. When Sunday’s anniversary of the court ruling in a case brought by New Jersey arrives, two-thirds of the country will offer legal sports betting, with additional states likely to join in coming months or years. The fast-growing industry is also far-reaching: its advertisements reach into most U.S. homes during sporting events and even non-sports programming. Few TV viewers have been spared from repeated ads featuring a Caesar character discussing sports gambling with members of the Manning football dynasty, or from actor Jamie Foxx placing sports bets in between takes on a film set.“While the milestones of legalized sports betting t...Man shot in groin area during one of two Oakley shootings reported minutes apart: police

WELLESLEY — Little went as planned for the Notre Dame Academy of Hingham for much of Monday’s girls lacrosse game at Wellesley. The host Raiders were better on the draws and on the ground, and they forced NDA to play from a deficit for way longer than they’re used to.But even when faced with such adversity, the visiting Cougars found a way to overcome it, rallying in the second half, then prevailing with a 10-9 double-overtime victory. With the win, NDA improves to 14-0, while Wellesley falls to 9-4.In a tense extra session, it was Notre Dame’s Emma Connerty who scored the game-winner. It proved to be NDA’s only lead of the game.“I think we learned a lot about ourselves and coming together,” said Connerty, who scored two goals. “We haven’t really been in this position before.
