A day after the release of an internal probe into a San Jose fire crew’s infamous visit to the Pink Poodle strip club, experts in personnel investigations and the city’s former mayor are questioning the honesty of the employees involved in the incident — most of whom were not disciplined for behavior that appears to violate fire department policies. While the investigation finally revealed the purported reasoning behind the visit to the Pink Poodle — Fire Captain William Tognozzi claimed he was picking up a flash drive with images of his colleagues taken by a photographer who also worked at the strip club — it also indicated that firefighters never came clean about a subsequent visit to a second adult entertainment establishment. The four firefighters — Tognozzi, Brian Dragges, Zach Clark and Matthew Westcott — initially told investigators that they had simply returned to their station after the visit to the Pink Poodle. But they were later confron...University of California admits a record number of California freshmen for the fall of 2023

The University of California has admitted an unprecedented number of California students for the fall of 2023, with 88,285 first-year applicants coming from the Golden State alone. It’s an increase of 3.5% from last year, and part of an ongoing effort to get more Californians into the state’s higher education system. This year, the state’s budget included a 5% boost for the UC system — part of a multi-year agreement between Governor Gavin Newsom and the University of California — with the expectation that campuses would use that money to enroll more California students, among other educational objectives.Across the UC system, that seems to be exactly what happened. Admission rates for Californians increased to nearly 67% this year, as opposed to 64% in 2022.The surge was more prominent at UC Santa Cruz than any other campus. This fall, the school admitted 10,200 more first-year Californian students than the year prior, a 44.5% jump. Though final enrollment num...Embattled Antioch Police Department names acting chief

DENVER (AP) — Longtime snowboard coach Peter Foley was suspended by the U.S. Center for SafeSport on Tuesday for sexual misconduct and violating policies at U.S. Ski and Snowboard.Foley’s suspension came after a near 18-month investigation that stemmed from an Instagram post by a former team member during last year’s Winter Olympics. That post led to allegations by others that Foley had molested them, coerced them into taking naked pictures, crawled into bed with them and nurtured an atmosphere in which women were treated as sex objects.A member of U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s board of directors, Lisa Kosglow, also was suspended for “abuse of process” and “failure to report.”“U.S. Ski & Snowboard strongly believes that there is no place in sport for abuse and misconduct, and we support the Center’s mission to end abuse on behalf of athletes everywhere,” the federation said in a statement. A person familiar with the case who requested not to be named because...The FedEx Cup playoffs are here. So is Matt Kuchar, the only player to never miss them

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Matt Kuchar keeps winding up in the PGA Tour record book for reasons that make him proud, but aren’t exactly his biggest goals. In March, he won his 36th match in the Dell Match Play to tie the record set by Tiger Woods. Now he becomes the only player to have reached the FedEx Cup playoffs every year since they began in 2007. That’s 17 consecutive years, a record he holds alone. Adam Scott had made every postseason but finished at No. 72 this year when the cutoff was reduced from 125 players to 70.“It’s the same thing in Match Play, the matches won and tying Tiger’s record. I see a bigger fish to fry,” Kuchar said. “It’s not something to me to knock out these titles or whatever they’re called. There are other goals than most matches or most FedEx Cup playoff appearances.”Kuchar certainly sees the upside. With only 70 players reaching the postseason, this was hard work for a 45-year-old, especially considering who didn’t ...Andy Murray comes back after close first set at National Bank Open to advance
