JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – Rockford Beach Park in House Springs has experienced a slew of issues since the start of the season. Despite temperatures that feel like triple digits, warnings from officials could be paying off, with an apparent drop in crowds at the dangerous waters. Two drownings and several water rescues have been recorded at Rockford Beach this season.High Ridge Fire Chief John Barton said there haven’t been any rescues or deaths at the beach since the last reported drowning on Aug. 12.From across the river, the view from the bluff is pretty steep, while rapid waters await below. It's been part of the biggest problems plaguing the park since the season began. With parking lots that once overflowed, the park was almost empty on Wednesday afternoon.“Every time we’ve been here, it’s usually had a lot of people,” said visitor Nicole Bianchino. “With this heat wave going on, sometimes the AC, cold drinks, and staying inside just doesn’t help or work.”Those who own the dangero...Searching for air conditioning in St. Louis

BRIDGETON, Mo. – An office group of bowlers at Kingpin Lanes in Bridgeton spent Wednesday enjoying the air-conditioned bowling alley. The group believes the plan for an indoor team building event was a good choice.“It’s a very good move in late August in St. Louis,” said bowler Donna Houseman.Gary Shenberg, the owner of the bowling complex, recently installed a portable AC unit and additional window shades in the entryway to help keep the heat from intruding.“When our leagues bowl, we get a lot of people in here,” he said.Shenberg said a 70-degree temperature range is the perfect atmosphere for enjoying bowling, food, and drinks. The complex also includes sand volleyball courts, but the extreme heat canceled league play this week. The heat did not cancel practice for some competitive beach volleyball players who were sharpening their skills on the sand in the afternoon heat. Close Thanks for signing up! For the second straight night, the Rockies had the Rays right where they wanted them — until they didn’t.Tampa Bay scored two runs off Justin Lawrence in the ninth to tie the game, then Brandon Lowe singled home the winning run off Brent Suter in the 10th to lift the Rays to a 6-5 comeback victory over the Rockies. The bullpen crumbling in crunch time came a day after Colorado gave up nine runs in the eighth inning in the opening game of the series at Tropicana Field en route to a 12-4 loss.Suter took the defeat in both games, and going back to Sunday’s homestand finale against the White Sox, the bullpen’s blown three games in a row in ugly fashion. In that 10-5 defeat in LoDo, Chicago plated seven runs in the eighth to uncork a comeback.“These are tough ones,” manager Bud Black told reporters. “These will test you, for sure. Nobody wants to contribute more than bullpen guys when the game is close. They’re feeling it hard right now. … T...Multiple people shot at famous Orange County biker bar

OAKLAND – Some Oakland A’s fans are not surprised that owner John Fisher has no intention of selling the MLB franchise but are highly skeptical of his claims he’ll make the necessary investments to help the team become championship-caliber after its proposed move to Las Vegas.“I don’t believe anything (Fisher) says,” said Lynda Seaver, 65, of Danville, who has been coming to the Coliseum since the A’s arrived in 1968. “He’s been lying to us for I don’t know how many years now. NEW YORK (AP) — In what amounted to a concession speech with the New York Yankees on the verge of their longest losing streak in a century, general manager Brian Cashman proclaimed the season “a disaster” and “an embarrassment” that will lead to job assessments of himself and manager Aaron Boone.New York (61-65), which began the season with baseball’s second-highest payroll at $275 million, ended its first nine-game losing streak in 41 years by beating Washington 9-1 Wednesday night on the strength of Aaron Judge’s first three-homer game.
