LOUIS - It was a historic night on Monday when the Cardinals and Brewers took the field, but not for anything either team did.History was being made in the commentating booth of Polo Ascencio and Bengie Molina as the two men broadcast the first Cardinals game on television in Spanish.“For the first time in St. Louis, it means a lot,” said Oscar Medina, a Cardinals fan.Medina is Mexican-American and works at Taqueria Hectorito on Cherokee Street. He said he always watched Cardinals games in English, occasionally translating the calls to his Mexican grandparents. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A former corporal with the North County Police Cooperative faces one charge of kidnapping and two counts of assault. James Sims was charged Monday following an investigation by the department. He’s accused of committing the crimes while serving as an officer.“We’re not going to sweep anything under the rug,” said Major Ron Martin with the North County Police Cooperative.He said the department investigated as soon as it was made aware of allegations stemming from two separate incidents.Sims is accused of coming to the aid of his brother, who was involved in a dispute with an individual in November. Denver students displaced by Manual High School’s closure in 2006 get their long-awaited diplomas — and an apology Shanita Lewis always hoped to receive a diploma from Denver’s Manual High School and, on Monday evening, it finally happened — more than a decade after the school temporarily closed and displaced hundreds of students. Lewis was one of 11 former Manual High students to receive honorary diplomas from Denver Public Schools during a meeting of the Board of Education. “It mattered that our school closed,” said Lewis, who was a freshman when Manual closed in 2006. Mom, 2 young daughters killed in tragic Mother's Day crash on 10 Freeway in Riverside County A 31-year-old mother and two of her daughters were killed in a tragic crash on Interstate 10 in Riverside County Sunday. Six other members of the family were injured in the wreck. The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. in Whitewater, a town located about 15 minutes northwest of Palm Springs.
