PHOTOS: July's supermoon over San Diego SAN DIEGO -- The first supermoon of the year illuminated the night sky over San Diego on Monday. While some stargazers were able to witness the phenomenon, for those that missed it, we've got you covered.Called the "Buck Moon," the supermoon, flushed with amber and red tones, was visible for a few hours on the morning of July 3. Elderly woman dead after two-alarm fire in East County home: SDSO RANCHO SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- An elderly woman is dead and another injured after a two-alarm fire broke out in an East County home on Saturday, the San Diego Sheriff's Office said.Around 12:15 p.m., the San Miguel Fire Department was notified of the fire in the 9100 block of Lavell Street after smoke was noticed coming from behind the home, according to SDSO. Fire crews arrived shortly after, extinguishing the fire around 1 p.m.When crews were able to get inside the house, firefighters discovered an elderly woman in the second floor of the home. Deputies attempted to rescue her, however, they were pushed back by smoke and flames. The woman sustained life-threatening injuries in the fire and, unfortunately, was later pronounced dead on scene. 40 firefighters respond to grass fire in SF's Crocker-Amazon neighborhood SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Crews are working to extinguish a grass fire Saturday afternoon in the Crocker-Amazon neighborhood, the San Francisco Fire Department announced on Twitter. Forty firefighters are at the scene near Geneva Avenue and Moscow Street. As of 5:30 p.m., SFFD said no structures are threatened, and there were no injuries. Metro to temporarily close 4 Green Line stations for major construction Metro riders on the Green Line to northern Prince George’s County, Maryland, will experience some station closures through the end of summer.The transit agency announced that its West Hyattsville, Hyattsville Crossing, College Park-U of Md. and Greenbelt stations will be closed for major construction from July 22 to Sept. 4.Metro said these four stations will be closed for the installation of fiber optic cables to enhance rail system technology.“Once installed, the fiber-optic cables will allow Metro to get more updates done during non-customer hours, which means less downtime in the future,” the transit agency said.Metro advises riders to plan for additional time for their commute.
