Proposal to end Senate standoff over military promotions and abortion policy goes nowhere

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hopes were dashed Monday for an imminent end to a Senate standoff that has delayed the promotions of more than 200 military officers and could delay the confirmation of President Joe Biden’s pick for chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama has been blocking the nominations to pressure the Defense Department to rescind a policy that reimburses service members who have to travel out of state for abortions and other reproductive care. Alabama is among the states where abortion is now illegal. A proposal to hold a Senate debate over Pentagon abortion policies as part of the annual defense bill negotiations was seen by some senators as the best prospect for getting Tuberville to lift those holds, but his office said Monday that Tuberville was opposed. The hold affects everyone from four-star Air Force Gen. CQ Brown, who was nominated to serve as the next chairman of the joint chiefs, to scores of one, two and three-star officers...TriNet, Nasdaq fall; Ballard Power, Chinook Therapeutics rise, Monday, 6/12/2023

WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s rare for the leader of the free world to be rendered silent, but President Joe Biden is clearly determined to say as little as possible about his predecessor Donald Trump’s federal indictment.Biden’s White House dodges questions about the matter. His campaign doesn’t respond to them. And Biden himself wants nothing to do with it. “I have no comment on what happened,” he told reporters Friday while in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The reticence reflects the precarious and unprecedented situation in which Biden finds himself: Just as Trump is the first former president to be charged by the federal government, Biden is the first incumbent to have his own administration indict his chief political rival. While hardly unforeseen, Trump’s indictment brought a fresh round of reminders throughout Biden world that the president does not want to be drawn into the drama with commentary of any sort. He’s wary of providing fodder for Trump and his allies’ efforts t...Heavy rain, hail causes flooding in Boulder

DENVER (KDVR) -- Housing and food prices haven't eased up, but at least summer road trips will be cheaper for Coloradans. The U.S. Energy Information Administration tracks weekly gas prices by state and metro area. The most recent update shows the Centennial State in a much-needed break from gas prices skyrocketing since the beginning of the global COVID pandemic. Inflation cutting into Coloradans’ vacation plans Colorado and the Denver metro area saw the most expensive gasoline prices in history last June. For all grades of gasoline, the average price per gallon in June 2022 was $4.927 - nearly 150% higher than the previous June and nearly a dollar higher than the next-highest record in the summer of 2008. As of the week ending June 5, Denver's average price per gallon of gas was $3.523, down $1.22 per gallon from the same week last year. Denver's price per gallon is slightly higher than the Colorado average price, which was $3.38 in the same week.
