AUSTIN (KXAN) -- State prosecutors have nearly wrapped up presenting their case against Austin Police Officer Christopher Taylor, who is on trial for murder in the death of Mike Ramos. Taylor's attorneys could take over Wednesday. Prosecutors expect to wrap mid-week in APD officer’s murder trial Taylor shot and killed Ramos, 42, during an incident with police back in April 2020 at a south Austin apartment complex parking lot. AUSTIN (KXAN) — The City of Austin announced Wednesday the closures of additional encampments this week, with 43 people assisted through that effort.The city's Housing-Focused Encampment Assistance Link (HEAL) Initiative aided in closing the encampments at Barwood Park and the Tom Donovan Nature Trail at the Williamson Creek Greenbelt, per the release. Those 43 residents assisted were relocated to the city's Northbridge and Southbridge shelters. The road to recovery started on Wednesday morning as Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins had successful surgery to repair his Achilles.The organization released the following statement:“Kirk Cousins underwent successful surgery to repair his torn Achilles tendon this morning at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Eagan, Minn. The surgery was led by Dr. Chris Coetzee. PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- A Plainfield man was arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court for disseminating matter harmful to a minor and enticing a child under 16. (BCN) -- A San Francisco man is facing six months in county jail after being convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend in her own home, prosecutors said.A jury found Melchor Manriquechan, 34, guilty of assault, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said in a statement Tuesday.On Aug. 28, 2022, Manriquechan's ex-girlfriend was sitting on the floor of her apartment with him. (BCN) -- An Alameda man has pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges related to cheating investors, the U.S. Department of Justice said Tuesday.Long Nguyen, 35, defrauded at least 20 people out of about $2 million, prosecutors said. Nguyen admitted that between September 2015 and July 2021, he made false statements about himself, his investment opportunities, how he would invest his victims' money, and what he did with their money.Nguyen told potential investors that he was a billionaire and that other people who invested had received a high rate of return. He also told people he was creating a hedge fund and that he had great investment opportunities in companies that had not yet made an initial public offering.
