AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — Spain will play for its first Women’s World Cup championship after Olga Carmona’s goal in the 89th minute lifted La Roja to a 2-1 victory over Sweden in the Tuesday semifinal. Spain, which overcame last year’s near mutiny by its players against coach Jorge Vilda, will play the winner of tournament co-host Australia and England on Sunday in the final in Sydney. The controversy surrounding Spain dates to last September, when 15 players signed a letter complaining about Vilda and the conditions for the the national team. Three of those players are on this World Cup team, and Vilda a day before the game against Sweden praised the Spanish federation for its support. Now, La Roja has a chance to become a first-time World Cup champion. Ranked seventh in the world by FIFA, Spain’s defeat of second-ranked Sweden makes it the highest-ranked team remaining in the tournament. “This is a historic day,” said Vilda. “We’re in the final, that’s w...Ituran: Q2 Earnings Snapshot

QB KJ Jefferson and the Hogs will try to take the next step

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas coach Sam Pittman is no longer learning what it takes to win in the Southeastern Conference. He has already made significant strides in his first three years. The next step would be turning the Razorbacks into a consistent contender. The Razorbacks are on the right track — Arkansas is seeking its fourth straight bowl trip, which would mark its longest streak since a run from 1998 to 2003. A highlight of Pittman’s tenure was last year’s triple-overtime Liberty Bowl win over Kansas.Moving up in the ranks might be easier said than done with Oklahoma and Texas joining the already-stacked SEC in 2024. Quarterback KJ Jefferson gives the Razorbacks hope that more momentum can be built before the league expands. He threw for 2,648 yards with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2022 and he ran for another 640 yards with nine touchdowns. “He is our leader,” Pittman said. “He’s our leader both on the offense and the defense. Obviously on one si...Denver weather: 90s are back for rest of workweek

DENVER (KDVR) — Update 5:30 a.m.: Breezy has been located. Her owner, Ginger Thompson, posted on Facebook that the Southwest ramp crew found her at the airport. Previous story: Ginger Thompson and Breezy, her year-old Bengal cat, flew to Denver from Washington for a cat competition. While boarding their Southwest flight home Sunday, Breezy got out of her carrier. “They were getting me on the plane rushing me, and I set her down to get ready to put her under the seat, put my backpack up into the overhead bin, and was sort of jostled,” Thompson said. Did you know Denver is one of the freshest non-coastal places you can get fish? Thompson said she isn't sure how the latch broke. But when the carrier opened up, Breezy jumped out. Thompson tried to catch Breezy, but the cat fell between the airplane door and jet bridge onto the tarmac. “I saw her fall and she sort of tried to claw to stay up, but the momentum just took her down. And it wasn’t a jump or anything, it was more like just f...Britain has ‘let down’ Afghan families fleeing the Taliban, study warns

LONDON — Afghan families “have been let down” by shortcomings in the British government’s plan to offer refuge to people fleeing the Taliban, according to a new study released to mark two years since the fall of Kabul. The U.K. launched two programs — “Operation Warm Welcome” and the “Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy” in 2021 — in a bid to house Afghans who had worked closely with the British government, as well as those deemed particularly vulnerable once the Taliban regained control of the country. But, two years on, think tank More in Common found Britain’s offer of help had not “lived up to its potential.”“The British public’s generosity of spirit towards Afghan refugees has not been met by what has so far been delivered by local and national government,” it warned. The report is particularly critical of housing provision offered to Afghan refugees. It finds that roughly 9,000 people, half of whom are children, were stil...Latest news
