In fact, it only took two periods to end up embroiled in a controversial penalty involving Sidney Crosby that left Helm and the Avs fuming.Helm’s victory lap season hasn’t gone as planned. Colorado’s 5-2 loss to the Penguins on Wednesday was just his sixth game, and his second return from a long-term injury. Gabe Kapler’s ‘most encouraging’ part of SF Giants’ spring training is also one of their biggest questions

Gabe Kapler’s ‘most encouraging’ part of SF Giants’ spring training is also one of their biggest questions SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — There is no such thing as too much starting pitching, the old adage goes. But, sitting in his manager’s office a week before Opening Day, Gabe Kapler on Wednesday was still working to put together a puzzle that had too many pieces.“It’s a little bit of a puzzle early on,” the Giants manager said of his starting rotation, which has seven capable candidates for only five — or, in the first week of the season, four — spots. The moves provided some insurance in case Anthony DeSclafani’s a...

Pentagon: Budget readies US for possible China confrontation WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military must be ready for possible confrontation with China, the Pentagon’s leaders said Thursday, pushing Congress to approve the Defense Department’s proposed $842 billion budget that would modernize the force in Asia and around the world.“This is a strategy-driven budget — and one driven by the seriousness of our strategic competition with the People’s Republic of China,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in testimony before the House Appropriations subcommittee on defense. Pointing to increases in new technology, such as hypersonics, Austin said the budget proposes to spend more than $9 billion, a 40% increase over last year, to build up military capabilities in the Pacific and defend allies. The testimony comes on the heels of Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit to Moscow, amid concerns China will step up its support for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine and increasingly threaten the West.China’s act...

At the other, a handful of sprinters dart through the mild March air, the blue parachutes attached to their waists mushrooming behind them as they pick up speed.Same as it ever was at East Palestine as it transitions from winter to spring sports. While no one was hurt, concerns over a potential explosion led state and local officials to approve releasing and burning toxic vinyl chloride from five tanker cars that forced the evacuations of half the village and closed schools for a week.More than a month later, the cleanup is ongoing.
