Greek far-right party seeks to defy election ban ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A retired senior prosecutor in Greece was named Friday as the new leader of a far-right party as it seeks to sidestep a ban on its participation in an upcoming general election. Participation of the Greeks Party could potentially change the outcome of the May 21 parliamentary election as poll margins tighten between the leading incumbent New Democracy party and a left-wing opposition party, Syriza. The Greeks Party is vying to field candidates despite the ban the Greek Parliament approved in February on the grounds that the party’s founder, Ilias Kasidiaris, is serving a 13-year prison sentence for membership in a criminal organization.Kasidiaris founded the Greeks Party after receiving his sentence in 2020. Woman found fatally shot inside apartment on Chicago's South Side; 1 in custody CHICAGO — A man is in custody after a woman was found fatally shot inside an apartment building in the city's Auburn Gresham neighborhood.Police said officers responded to a gun call in the 7700 block of South Bishop around 12:50 a.m. Friday. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 46-year-old woman unresponsive on a bed.According to police, the woman sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene. Her identity has not yet been released.Moments later, police said a man was seen running from the rear of the residence and was detained by police. A handgun was recovered in the area. 2 teens shot near Illinois Institute of Technology campus No charges have been announced yet. Area Two detectives are investigating.

Austin City Council studying solutions for childcare affordability AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Childcare affordability is on the mind of councilmember Vanessa Fuentes. She and her colleagues on the Austin City Council passed a resolution earlier this year that makes opening a childcare facility easier and cheaper, and she says more needs to be done. Finding adequate childcare has become a timely and expensive issue for parents around the country and here in Travis County. Brightwheel, a childcare management software, estimates the average cost of childcare in Austin is $1,100 a month. Fuentes sees the same thing. "I have families in my district who are paying up to $1,100 a month in childcare. And that is tuition-level prices," Fuentes explained. She said there is a need to have a dedicated revenue source for funding childcare operations that will create more options for parents and offset some of the prices. (NEWS10) — On Thursday, a state appeals court upheld the conviction and sentence of Carlos Graham, of Catskill, in the January 2017 murder of Brandyn Foster. In his 2019 criminal trial, Graham admitted to the slaying, and to hiding Foster's body under his bedroom floor. A judge rules the battle over its ownership needs to go to trial.The Fox Theatre's 99-year lease is shared between Fox Associates LLC and Foxland Inc. It expires in 2025.
