SAN DIEGO -- Taquitos are something that everyone has had, whether they were from the frozen section of a grocery store or at a local restaurant.But did you know, taquitos were developed right here in San Diego at a joint on the outskirts of Mission Hills: El Indio Mexican.Founder of El Indio Mexican, Ralph Pesqueira Sr., in this undated image. MEXICO CITY (AP) — A band of gunmen invaded a resort where dozens of vacationers were spending the weekend in central Mexico and opened fire, killing six adults and a 7-year-old, authorities said.Officials in the Cortazar municipality in Guanajuato state said in a statement that an eighth person was seriously wounded in the midafternoon attack at the La Palma resort. It’s been two years since the release of an independent review into the Toronto police’s handling of missing person cases. On Saturday, a community engagement event held at City Hall provided an update on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Missing and Missed Report and the plan going forward. In 2018, the Toronto Police Services Board commissioned an independent review to evaluate how the police service conducted missing person investigations, particularly in relation to 2SLGBTQ+ and vulnerable or marginalized communities. On April 13, 2021, an independent review found serious instances of systemic discrimination and flaws in how the police service investigated disappearances, including the case of serial killer Bruce McArthur who preyed on men in the city’s gay village for close to a decade. JOLIET, Ill. — A 20-year-old man was killed Friday night after he was riding a motorcycle and crashed into a car in Joliet, according to police.Joliet police said the man was north on Northeast Frontage Road near Pandola Avenue around 11 p.m. when he struck the passenger side of a car turning east on Pandola Avenue from south on Northeast Frontage Road. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Roads are reopened after a car fire on Interstate 35 in south Austin caused some earlier road closures. The car fire was on southbound I-35 frontage road near Stassney Lane.There were no injuries in the fire, AFD said. The department also said the car was not a Tesla. The Missing Person Remembrance site in Albany brought people together to shine hope on many ongoing searches for missing persons. A number that according to DNA Investigations founder and president, Tobi Kirschmann, keeps growing. "Every year in just the state of New York there are thousands of people who go missing. A lot of them are found, but some of them are not," stated Kirschmann.Kirschmann's organization helps to bring warmth to cold cases that have gone unsolved for years. "We can take DNA samples and build family trees from them. Which can help identify people that were unknown," explained Kirschmann.
