NEW YORK (AP) — Until a couple of days ago, Luis Urias of the Boston Red Sox had never hit a grand slam in the Major Leagues. Now the light-hitting infielder is in a category with Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx.Urias become the first Red Sox player to hit grand slams on consecutive pitches and the first in 80 years to hit slams in consecutive games in leading Boston to an 8-1 victory over the fading Yankees Saturday, sending New York to its seventh straight loss.Urias cleared the based in his last at bat against Washington reliever Robert Garcia on Thursday night and the ninth-place hitter stunned Yankees ace Gerrit Cole in the second inning with a blast to left center.Urias, who was acquired from Milwaukee in a deal at the trade deadline, is the first Red Sox to hit grand slams in consecutive games since Foxx on May 20-21 in 1940. He also is the first player in the majors to hit grand slams in consecutive trips to the plate since Josh Willingham with Washington in 2009.Before hitting th...Blue Jays’ pitcher Alek Manoah still in Toronto, date of next start unknown

Alek Manoah has yet to make a start for triple-A Buffalo, eight days after he was optioned there by the Toronto Blue Jays.Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Saturday that Manoah remains in Toronto and the date for his next start has not been determined.Manoah was optioned down to the minors for the second time this season on Aug. 11 and told to focus on refining his pitch delivery. His last start saw him allow four earned runs across four innings against the Cleveland Guardians.Manoah was a finalist for the American League Cy Young award last year but has struggled this season with a 3-9 record, 5.87 ERA and uncharacteristic 59 walks. He was optioned to the Florida Complex League on June 6 and made one start at that level plus one start at double-A before re-joining the Blue Jays in early July.Schneider said that the strategy with Manoah is similar to his earlier stint in the FCL where he worked through his pitches separately at the team’s spring training complex in Dunedin...Japan’s Kishida to visit Fukushima plant to highlight safety before start of treated water release

TOKYO (AP) — Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will make a brief visit to the tsunami-wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant on Sunday to highlight the safety of an impending release of treated radioactive wastewater into the Pacific Ocean, a divisive plan that his government wants to start soon despite protests at home and abroad. His trip comes hours after he returned home Saturday from a summit with U.S. and South Korean leaders at the American presidential retreat of Camp David. Before leaving Washington on Friday, Kishida said it is time to make a decision on the treated water’s release date, which has not been set due to the controversy surrounding the plan.Since the government announced the release plan two years ago, it has faced strong opposition from Japanese fishing organizations, which worry about further damage to the reputation of their seafood as they struggle to recover from the accident. Groups in South Korea and China have also raised concerns, turning it into a ...Man seriously injured in Petite Lake water craft crash

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Runnin’ Russell Wilson and the Broncos’ No. 1 offense got off to a much better start in their second preseason game. The Broncos starting quarterback engineered just one drive — a 13-play, 49-yard march that ended in a field goal after getting beset by a pair of penalties — before backup Jarrett Stidham got some run with the top unit Saturday night against San Francisco.Though head coach Sean Payton will certainly not like wide receiver Courtland Sutton holding on the edge as Wilson scooted for a big gain on a zone-read keeper, or Garett Bolles jumping early late in the play clock, the Broncos’ top offense looked sharper than it did on its opening pair of drives last weekend against Arizona. The two most interesting developments: Wilson’s work with his feet and a relatively heavy workload for Javonte Williams in his return from October knee surgery.Payton wasted no time getting Williams involved after saying during the week he wanted him to get a couple of ...Kiszla: At U.S. Amateur Championship, golfer Neal Shipley is Righteous Dude walking in footsteps of the King
