Too much red tape or inertia?Thank you for the editorial from Bloomberg Opinion calling attention to the thousands of immigrants, refugees and U.S. citizens who have work experience elsewhere to whom we should turn to fill our huge demand (“Immigration can help solve the nursing shortage,” May 25). First step should be compiling local lists of them by skill set, like lab technicians, nursing aids, clinic and hospital nurses, public health officials, department managers and doctors. While they were still at Camp McCoy in 2021 a doctor who had worked for the U.S. until he fled with this wife and several children told how he was not allowed to practice in the U.S. even though he might help in the camp.
