Brad Pitt who? ‘Single mom’ Angelina Jolie ditches UN work to launch luxury fashion brand It appears that Angelina Jolie’s bitter custody battle with Brad Pitt is mostly behind her as the couple’s six children approach adulthood. She’s also ditched her prestigious, high-profile work as a goodwill ambassador and special envoy for the UN Refugee Agency. In a new phase phase of her life, the Academy Award-winning actor and director has made a home in New York City and has launched a new career as the head of a luxury fashion brand bearing her name, Vogue is reporting. In a new cover story for the magazine, Jolie doesn’t mention Pitt by name. She rarely has spoken about him since she filed for divorce in 2016 and accused him of being violent around their children in an infamous private plane ride from France to the United States.Still, Jolie appeared to reference Pitt when she admitted to Vogue: “I feel a bit down these days. I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way, which I don’t want to get into.”HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – O...

Should San Jose Sharks leverage cap space to help bail out Ottawa Senators? SAN JOSE – General manager Mike Grier is hoping the San Jose Sharks can leverage some of their ample salary cap space this season, particularly when the NHL trade deadline approaches.Perhaps, though, there’s an opportunity for the Sharks to do something with that space right now.The Ottawa Senators are trying to sign restricted free agent center Shane Pinto to an extension but do not have the needed cap space at the moment to get a deal done. There have been reports that Pinto’s next contract might come in with an average annual value of just over $2 million, and the Senators, per CapFriendly, have less than $1 million at their disposal. To free up space, it’s been speculated that Ottawa might need to trade someone like forward Mathieu Joseph, who is in the second year of a four-year, $11.8 million deal. To consummate a trade, the Senators might need to throw in a good prospect or a high draft pick as a sweetener to make it work.Does it make sense for the Sharks to make such a move, ...

Soccer player Paulinho won’t let intolerance of his Afro-Brazilian religion stop his faith LAGOA SANTA, Brazil (AP) — When Brazilian soccer player Paulinho scored a goal at the Tokyo Olympics, he celebrated by pointing an imaginary arrow at the flashing cameras as homage to a deity in his persecuted Afro-Brazilian faith – and taking aim at religious intolerance.Shortly after, he lost more than 10,000 followers on social media for his public gesture paying tribute to Oxóssi– a godly archer who uses his bow to hunt and feed the hungry. But he says he gradually gained new fans in his soccer-crazed South American country for representing his Afro-Brazilian religion Candomblé and challenging religious intolerance. His religion has faced a rising tide of harassment, sometimes linked to Brazil’s fast spread of evangelical Christianity.“Some players ask me about my religion, they want to know what it’s like, … I always tell them, they listen. But it’s still a small minority in soccer,” the 23-year-old player for Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro said in an interview at his home outs...

Sleeping, eating, film work and a little ‘panic.’ How the Steelers dealt with emergency landing Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett was trying to get some sleep as the team was flying back from a win in Las Vegas early Monday morning when a flight attendant nudged him awake with some unwelcome news.“(She) was like ‘We have a Code Yellow alert’ and I was just kind of out of it,” Pickett said. “I was like, ’What does that mean? We’re one step away from Code Red.’”Things didn’t quite get that far, though an oil pressure issue forced Pittsburgh’s charter plane to make an emergency landing in Kansas City. The plane landed safely, though not everyone on the flight took the unexpected detour in stride.“Some guys were panicking,” Pickett said. “It was a crazy situation. I’m happy we landed.”Once safely on the ground, the Steelers spent five-plus hours on the tarmac while waiting for another plane to fly in from Atlanta that could carry the team the rest of the way home, making an already long night even longer. The Steelers were initially supposed to l...
