SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California leaders lashed out at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and hinted at a criminal investigation Monday over the arrival of two flights of migrants who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas and then were sent to Sacramento, allegedly at the direction of Florida officials. The flight that arrived Monday with about 20 migrants followed the arrival Friday of 16 others from Colombia and Venezuela who had been taken by van from Texas to New Mexico and then put on a chartered plane to a small airport in the California capital, officials said. They are the latest apparent instances of a Republican-led state transporting migrants to one controlled by Democrats. The newest arrivals remained at the airport for a couple of hours and were fed before being transported to a “religious institution,” said Kim Nava, a Sacramento County spokeswoman. Nava said she didn’t know the nationalities of the new arrivals or where they had intended to go in the U.S.“Our county soci...Tractor-trailer rollover causes ramp closures from I-595 to I-95 in Dania Beach

Austria’s Social Democrats announce wrong winner of leadership contest

In Austria, the elections really are rigged — by incompetence. The Social Democrats (SPÖ) said they’d declared the wrong candidate as the winner of a nail-biting party election over the weekend.Instead of Hans Peter Doskozil, the populist governor of the eastern Burgenland region, leftist small-town mayor Andreas Babler will take charge of the country’s oldest party. About 600 SPÖ delegates voted at an extraordinary party convention on Saturday. Doskozil celebrated what appeared to be a clear victory with 53 percent of the vote. In fact, Babler won with 53 percent to Doskozil’s 47 percent, according to the revised tally. Exactly what led to the bizarre turn of events remained unclear as of late Monday. SPD election director Michaela Grubesa offered a confused explanation at a press conference, blaming a “technical error by a colleague with an Excel table” during the tabulation of the results. The mistake was discovered during a recount on Monday, undertaken becau...Community mourns after Franklin, NH shooting that left woman, her daughter dead, 5-year-old injured

A memorial was growing outside a home in Franklin, New Hampshire Monday a matter of days after authorities said a mother and her baby daughter were found shot to death. Officials said the pair were found on Saturday. The suspect, identified as the baby’s father, then took his own life, according to authorities. A five-year-old girl was also injured in the shooting. Now out of the hospital, the child’s aunt has created a GoFundMe for her medical needs and future college funds. “Left behind is my brave, strong, amazing niece Abrianna (Brina), who was Nicole’s oldest daughter (5),” reads the GoFundMe description. “She is expected to make a full recovery from the physical injuries inflicted. As terrible as this situation is, we are so grateful for her to still be in our lives.”While Abrianna recovers, loved ones have remained in deep mourning for 38-year-old Nicole Hughes and her 1.5-year-old daughter Ariella Bell.
