The Warriors might need another center, but they don’t need Dwight Howard. The Warriors will reportedly bring in Howard for a visit next week. The eight-time NBA All-Star played in Taiwan last season, averaging 23.2 points per game, per Asia-Basket.com.But the big man the Warriors need is already in the NBA — not embarrassing himself in the Taiwanese league and begging for stateside attention every 20 minutes — and he just finished showing that he’s one of the best players in the world.I don’t know if you watched the FIBA World Cup this summer, it was on pretty early, but in an upset, Germany won the tournament, beating the USA in the semifinals and Serbia for the title. From my perspective, the standout player in the epic USA-Germany game was Pacers center Daniel Theis, whom you might remember from his time in Boston. We’ve long known that Theis is an undersized but rock-solid center. Watching him play the international game — and often as a power forward — was deepl...Hugh Jackman and his wife join ‘gray divorce’ trend with split after 27 years of marriage

The usual gossip has begun to swirl around the big announcement that Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness are divorcing after 27 years of marriage. But as people wonder if the marriage was a “sham” all along, they could also consider that the Jackmans are like many couples who divorce after long marriages. Whatever led to the split, Jackman and Furness are part of a growing U.S. trend of “gray divorce” — or divorce after the age of 50.In a statement to People, the couple explained that they are amicably ending their marriage.“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the statement said. “Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”The statement, signed “Deb and Hugh Jackman,” concluded: “This is the sole statement either of us will make.”The Australian couple, who have long lived in New York...We tried Arby’s new Venison-Elk-Beef Burger. Is it a wild-game winner?

Arby’s has dreamed up a Big Game Burger that has nothing to do with a big football game. The star of this burger is game … wild game. For a limited time only, the restaurant group is offering a huge burger made with ground venison, elk and beef. It’s not the first time Arby’s has gone where no other fast-food chain ventures. In 2017, Arby’s sold a venison steak sandwich for one day only at all U.S. locations, and the special sold out quickly. The chain has also sold game in what it calls “hunting-centric” states like Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.Last year the restaurants sold a Wagyu burger blend, and the customer response was impressive, with the supply at some locations selling out early. That patty was a blend of 48% ground beef and 52% American Wagyu, which is a cross between Japanese Wagyu and top American cattle breeds.“We’re dedicated to crafting unique culinary experiences for our guests,” said Ellen Rose, chief marketing office...Alameda sheriff’s office: Man killed woman after cops set up perimeter around home

When San Jose announced plans last month to ban RV dwellings near schools, that was just the beginning of potentially more laws to reign in the hundreds of vehicles parked along the city’s roadways — a growing problem that has enraged residents and led to a slew of public safety concerns.San Jose officials are exploring policies that include banning RVs from certain streets and sanctioning others who park on designated roads, increasing enforcement for street parking time limits and a permit system attached with a code of conduct, such as agreements that would ensure personal items are kept off the sidewalk. The restrictions on vehicles near schools — combined with the possibility of new enforcement laws — marks a new chapter in San Jose’s stance towards homelessness and falls in line with Mayor Matt Mahan’s tougher approach to combatting one of the Bay Area’s most intractable problems. Facing one of America’s most acute affordable hous...Pentagon orders new interviews about Kabul airport attack

By Lolita C. Baldor | Associated PressWASHINGTON — The Pentagon’s Central Command has ordered interviews of roughly two dozen more service members who were at the Kabul airport when suicide bombers attacked during U.S. forces’ chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal, as criticism persists that the deadly assault could have been stopped. The interviews, ordered by Gen. Erik Kurilla, head of U.S. Central Command, were triggered in part by assertions by at least one service member injured in the blast who said he was never interviewed about it and that he might have been able to stop the attackers. The interviews are meant to see if service members who were not included in the original investigation, have new or different information. The decision, according to officials, does not reopen the administration’s investigation into the deadly bombing and the withdrawal two years ago. But the additional interviews will likely be seized on by congressional critics, mostly Republican, as...Hank the Tank's cubs raised in captivity at Sonoma County facility

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The only time Mark Kotsay ever faced being demoted or released as a player, Terry Francona delivered the tough news. And he did so with such grace and care that Kotsay remembers to this day how that thoughtful tone made it a little easier to accept in the moment. Those are lessons he now uses himself as manager of the Oakland Athletics.“Terry Francona, his communication skills are off the charts,” said Tampa Bay skipper Kevin Cash, who played for Francona in Boston and served as a coach on his staff in Cleveland. “I think that’s why he’s been in the game and been successful for so long.”Rangers manager Bruce Bochy has long abided by a simple message when it comes to his players: “I try to treat players the way I would want to be treated.”So, when it comes to tough conversations, most every manager agrees that being truthful and straightforward is always the best approach. All these years later, Kotsay still recalls when Francona told him in 200...Kansas will no longer change transgender people’s birth certificates to reflect gender identities, state officials say
