Former Old Dominion basketball coach Paul Webb dies at 94 Paul Webb, who guided Old Dominion on a 22-game winning streak in its first season in Division I in 1976-77 and led the Monarchs to nine postseason tournament appearances in 10 seasons, has died. He was 94.The university based in Norfolk, Virginia, said Webb died Friday at his home in Virginia Beach surrounded by his four children. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte, who passed away on the same date two years earlier.Eddie Webb, his oldest son, said his father had been in declining health in recent months.Webb came to Old Dominion in 1975 after coaching 19 years at Randolph-Macon, where Eddie played for him. Federal agency issues warning on small magnetic balls linked to deaths The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning about the danger of high-powered, pea-sized magnets found in toys, announcing one company’s recall of a set containing them and saying it was aware of seven deaths linked to their ingestion.The federal agency estimated that ingestion of the magnets led to 2,400 hospital emergency room visits from 2017-2021 in addition to the deaths, two of which it said occurred outside the United States.“Consumers should stop using the recalled magnetic balls immediately, (and) take them away from children,” the commission said in an online notice.
