NEW YORK (AP) — A writer who accused Donald Trump of raping her in a luxury department store in the 1990s testified for a second day Thursday at a civil trial, saying a fresh onslaught of insults on social media did nothing to diminish her pride to be in court. The testimony in Manhattan federal court came a day after columnist E. Jean Carroll bluntly told the jury she came to court “because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it, he said it didn’t happen.”Carroll, 79, said social media users lobbed new attacks against her as people labeled her a “liar, slut, ugly, old.”“But I couldn’t be more proud to be here,” she testified.A day earlier, she told how a chance encounter with Trump at a Bergdorf Goodman store in late 1995 or early 1996 turned from flirtatious frivolity in the desolate lingerie section into a violent sexual attack inside a dressing room. Carroll said Trump slammed her against a wall, yanked down her tights and raped her before she kneed him and ...Greece to allow pets into more than 120 archaeological sites

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Pets will soon be allowed into more than 120 archaeological sites across Greece, the country’s Culture Ministry announced Thursday, although not in the Acropolis or some of the other top tourist draws. The move, unanimously approved by the country’s powerful Central Archaeological Council, will relax current rules which only allow guide dogs for disabled visitors into archaeological sites. The ministry did not specify when the new regulations would be implemented. The decision is “a first, but important, step toward harmonizing the framework of accessibility to monuments and archaeological sites with the standards of other European countries, where entry rules for pets already apply,” Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said in a ministry press release. The council approved the entry of pets provided they are kept on a leash no more than one meter (3 feet) long, or carried by their owners in a pouch or a pet carrying case. Owners will also need to show their pet’s healt...‘Gold obviously’: London-bound Toronto milliner on party hats fit for a coronation

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Lawmakers from Pakistan’s ruling party overwhelmingly backed Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s government in a confidence vote in Parliament on Thursday — a show of hands intended to halt speculations that he was losing support amid a major economic crisis.Cash-strapped Pakistan is struggling to avoid a default and is now in talks with the International Monetary Fund on the revival of a $6 billion bailout signed in 2019 by Sharif’s predecessor, then-Prime Minister Imran Khan. Sharif’s government in recent weeks slashed subsidies and raised taxes to comply with the bailout terms and secure the release of a $1.2 billion tranche that’s part of the deal stalled since December. Those measures, however, resulted in increases in the price of food, gas and power. The weekly inflation this month jumped to a record-breaking 47%, raising fears of mass protests. Sharif says he inherited a bad economy from Khan, who was ousted in a no-confidence vote last April. K...Glenbard West High School evacuated due to bomb threat

LAKE FOREST - It's easily the biggest of the Ryan Poles era of the franchise so far as the selections he makes will have an impact on the franchise for years to come. That might seem a bit hyperbolic, but with a team in need of talent and a Top Ten pick in hand, it's important for the Bears' general manager to come through for the next three days. As the 2023 NFL Draft begins at 7 p.m. central time on Thursday, Poles will have ten picks at his disposal to either use to select players or trade in order to get other selections. Outside of the quarterback spot, pretty much every position is in need of either a starter or looking for depth ahead of next season. So are Poles and his assistant general manager Ian Cunningham grasping the magnitude of the moment? Yes, but it's not what you might think."Pressure's a privilege," said Cunningham at a news conference on Tuesday. "At least for us, I think we just look at it as this is a draft. We're excited about it. You try to keep yourself in t...Latest news
