Major changes coming to historic east entrance at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 20:00:53 GMT

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is planning to spend $17 million to make some major changes to the look and feel of its east-facing entrance for the first time in decades. The east plaza revitalization project, which is slated to begin in 2025, will transform the historic entrance of the museum where Infinity Theater (formerly IMAX) patrons enter in the evening. It will also redesign the plaza outside the entrance, museum officials said, opening it up to both the public and museum-goers eating at the cafe and restaurant just inside the doors.Perhaps most visibly, a historic staircase will also be reintroduced with the removal of an existing canopy, officials said.“People use it now, it’s just under the canopy and covered in carpet,” said Ed Scholz, executive vice president of operations and finance at DMNS. “It’s still going to be the entrance to the (IMAX) theater, but it can also be used by people for just sitting and hanging out — and ...

The saying goes “any given Sunday,” but sportsbooks aren’t fully bullish on Denver’s odds to bring home the Lombardi Trophy this year.DraftKings Sportsbook has the most optimistic odds at +12,000 — meaning a $100 bet would win $12,000 — for the Broncos to win Super Bowl LVIII. But I’ll give it my best shot. And I’m so sorry, CarGo, but you didn’t make the cut. It’s Greg’s fault.• Right-hander starter: Ubaldo Jimenez. He burned out quickly, but from 2007-10 he was sensational, especially by Rockies standards.• Left-handed starter: Kyle Freeland. His 2018 season (17-7, 2.85 ERA), capped off by his gem in the wild-card game at Wrigley Field against the Cubs, was magical. He’s remained a team leader and a tough-as-nails pitcher even though he’s never come close to matching his ’18 season.• Closer: Brian Fuentes. Co...

Editorial: Democrats are working overtime to reduce taxes. No, hell hasn’t frozen over.

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 20:00:53 GMT

Colorado’s Democrats are officially working overtime this holiday season to … brace yourselves … lower taxes. No, hell hasn’t frozen over.Rather, Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, recognizes that voters trusted both Republicans and Democrats in 2020. Failure to reduce property taxes in the face of this unsustainable increase is a betrayal of that trust. He called lawmakers back for a special session to act quickly before tax bills are set for March.Three years ago, Coloradans supported Amendment B voluntarily giving up the only thing insulating Colorado homeowners from the crushing housing inflation — the Gallagher Amendment. Inflation in home prices leads to higher home values which, in turn, increase property taxes. The amendment kept property taxes low for homeowners by ratcheting down the residential assessment rate while holding the commercial assessment rate the same. Without the amendment in place, property taxes are set to increase by as much as 40% in some communities whe...

He’s a rookie, but he has juice and a brilliant feel for the game. And aside from a second All-Star, that’s what these Warriors need as much as anything.Brandin Podziemski played like an All-Star on Tuesday. With Steph Curry sidelined, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson ejected before points were on the board, and Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul still playing like their best basketball is behind them, the Warriors’ hopes of beating the Timberwolves were tied to Podziemski, Dario Šarić, and Moses Moody.Do you smell that?
