Lane restrictions on major downtown artery starting Monday

The replacement of a century-old water main will result in lane restrictions to a major downtown artery starting Monday.Southbound University Avenue will be reduced to a single lane between College Street and Queen Street West for most of the next seven months in order to complete several infrastructure projects, among them the replacement of a 150-year-old water main.The City says construction may need to pause during the coldest part of winter from late December until early February when traffic restrictions will be lifted and all southbound lanes will be opened.The work on the southbound lanes is expected to be completed by summer 2024.In addition, Ontario Line construction will occupy two northbound lanes on University Avenue between Queen Street West and Armoury Street until early December at which time the northbound route will be reduced to one lane until that project is completed in 2026.“During construction, drivers are advised to plan their travel in advance, choose ...3 injured in crash involving CTA bus on South Side

CHICAGO — A crash involving a CTA bus on the city's South Side has left three people injured, according to Chicago fire officials.Fire officials say the crash happened in the 8600 block of South Stony Island Avenue on Sunday night. CHICAGO — A rash of armed robberies around the city on Sunday evening has Chicago police searching for answers. According to police, six robberies unfolded between 2:07 p.m. and 6:27 p.m. in several neighborhoods around the city. Officers say at least five of the armed robberies involved a group of men in a white SUV. Three young men of Palestinian descent who were in Burlington for a Thanksgiving holiday gathering were shot and injured, one seriously, near the University of Vermont, police said Sunday. The attack may have been a hate crime, authorities said.Police were searching for the suspect after the attack around 6:25 p.m. Saturday near the UVM campus, Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad said in a statement Sunday.Two of the men were in stable condition and the other suffered “much more serious injuries,” Murad said. Disneyland guests on “It’s a Small World” got an unexpected and unwelcome show Sunday when a man stripped nearly naked and got up close and personal with some of the set pieces on the iconic ride.Officers with the Anaheim Police Department responded to the theme park at around 1:30 p.m. to assist Disney security with the incident. A dozen vehicles were broken into in a Thousand Oaks neighborhood over the weekend, with the thieves even stealing one to use a getaway car. Cameras captured at least one of burglaries as a gang of crooks terrorized an upscale neighborhood, breaking into not just cars, but homes as well. “Alarms were going off in people’s houses and the police ended up coming a little while after,” resident Alisa Bertram told KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw. An enormous tumbleweed was captured on video rolling across a road in Southern California last week. Video circulating on X, formerly Twitter, shows the massive tumbleweed rolling over one span of the road, over the median and on to the other side of the road in the direction of traffic. The National Weather Service even reposted the video, saying that a gargantuan tumbleweed was spotted in Simi Valley the day before. California’s top cheeseburger joint is in L.A., according to Yelp Preliminary reports indicated that the video was taken in Simi Valley, but further investigation revealed that the actual location of the video was near Fairview Park on Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa.
