Motorcyclist killed after Route 9 crash in Malta

MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- One person has died after a crash at the intersection of Route 9 and Cherry Choke Road in Malta Friday afternoon. The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. and involved a motorcycle and an SUV.Police said the motorcyclist was taken to Saratoga Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Surrounding roads were closed for several hours and detours were put into place while first responders investigated the scene. All roads have since reopened. A man is dead after he was involved in a fatal bicycle crash in Ventura on Friday. Around 10:43 a.m., California Highway Patrol authorities responded to reports of a solo bicycle crash eastbound on Rancho Drive, west of Del Norte Road. Police say 74-year-old Michael Chambiss of Ojai was traveling eastbound on Rancho Drive when he lost control of the bike and collapsed onto the asphalt roadway. Chambiss was unresponsive when medical personnel arrived. He was transported to Ojai Valley Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is still ongoing. By Elizabeth Joseph | CNNA California woman has been sentenced to 90 days in jail after lying to authorities that a couple was attempting to kidnap her children, according to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office.Kathleen Sorensen, 31, was sentenced to jail Thursday on a single count of knowingly making a false report of a crime. The conviction stemmed from an incident in December 2020, when Sorensen and her two children were shopping at a Michaels craft store in Petaluma, California, about 30 miles north of San Francisco.After buying several items, Sorensen left with her two children and drove out of the parking lot, according to a news release from Sonoma County prosecutors. An 89-year-old man named McDaniel Smith was reported missing by his family on Friday afternoon, according to the Oakland Police Department.He was last seen around 1:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of MacArthur Boulevard wearing a hat with the words “Best Dad” written on the front.
