Published Tue, 19 Nov 2024 10:30:16 GMT
AUSTIN (KXAN) - With blistering heat this summer, you've likely heard a few people say "it's not the head, it's the humidity." Turns out both things are true: it's called the Heat Index. The heat index is used to calculate not the actual temperature of the air around you, but instead how hot you feel. This all comes down to sweat. When the body gets too hot, it sweats to cool itself off. Beads of sweat form, then evaporate off of your skin. As they evaporate, they pull the heat away with them. When it is more humid outside, sweat has a harder time evaporating. If the sweat can't evaporate, then your body can not regulate its temperature. What is humidity? This means you can't get cool and the temperature around you feels warmer. This feeling is called the heat index.Calculating the heat indexTo calculate the heat index, meteorologists use a complicated formula:HI = -42.379 + 2.04901523*T + 10.14333127*RH - .22475541*T*RH - .00683783*T*T - .05481717*RH*RH + .00122874*T*T*RH + .00085...Police conduct underage drinking detail in Saratoga County

Published Tue, 19 Nov 2024 10:30:16 GMT
Colorado economic forecasters predict another tax refund windfall next spring — though how Coloradans receive the excess collections depends on how they vote this November.Forecasters for both the legislative and executive branches expect tax collections subject to Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, or TABOR, caps to exceed $3.3 billion. That would be near the prior year’s record that lawmakers refunded through direct checks last fall. Following year forecasts still show excess collections, though not nearly as eye-popping.The excess collections will surely become a point of leverage in a looming ballot box battle over state tax policy. Voters will decide this November on Proposition HH, a multi-faceted proposal aimed to blunt the sharpest edges of rising property taxes while also allowing the state to keep more tax dollars than currently allowed under TABOR.Opponents are arguing its passage would lead to a long-term vacuuming of tax dollars that would otherwise be returne...Latest news
