By Sunday, another 10 homes were actively moving with the shifting ground and 16 additional homes were being monitored. The ground had shifted over 20 feet in a 24-hour period with no signs of stopping. Firefighters brace for wildfires as heat wave tightens grip on Southland As the heat wave blanketing Southern California tightens its grip, bringing triple-digit temps, many families are hitting the water to stay cool while firefighters brace for the increased risk of wildfire across the region.  At the Fontana Park Aquatic Center, families were having a blast beating the heat in the splash pad. Kyoki Nance, 10, told KTLA it was her dad’s birthday, and they came out to have some fun.  “I’m having an amazing time,” Hakeem Nance, Kyoki’s dad, said. “I’m here with the family, no better feeling.”  Fontana Aquatic Center Coordinator Jessica Barragan said the facility offers all kinds of activities for people.  “We offer recreational swim, we offer swim lessons, junior guard camp and as of right now, we are open seven days a week,” she explained.  Outside the aquatic center, however, places like Patricia Murray Park were a ghost town during the hottest part of the day. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for much of the Inla...

Ready to complete the 'Barbenheimer' circuit? Summer's most-anticipated films set to release on same day Blockbuster releases are typically spread out strategically throughout the summer to encourage a near-constant stream of ticket revenue and public interest. But in a rare turn of events, the two most anticipated films of the year are set to release on the same day, and they couldn't be any more different from each other.Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," will both premiere on the big screen on July 21, begging the question: which film should you see on opening day?For thousands of moviegoers who purchased their tickets through theater chain AMC, that's apparently not a problem. AMC said in a statement to Variety that more than 20,000 AMC Stubs members — the theater chain's rewards program — have double-booked, buying tickets for both films on the same day.The theater experience likely couldn't be any more different between the two films."Oppenheimer" is a gritty R-rated historical biopic that tells the story of J. Oakland Mayor Thao may get a salary raise (KRON) -- Oakland's mayor has served the city for less than a year, but the city council is already considering giving her a big pay raise. At Tuesday's Oakland City Council meeting, councilmembers will mull over a proposal to give Mayor Sheng Thao a $70,000 raise -- on top of her $226,557 annual salary. Thao is eligible for the salary boost under the city's charter. City councilman Noel Gallo said he plans to vote "no," citing the city's looming budget deficit. "We have a projected $360 million deficit that I am trying to make up for in the following year. As it is right now, she is making over $200,000 per year. She just got elected. (Thao) hasn't demonstrated in terms of her capacity yet. I'm going to vote no on the item. I think that money should go straight back into the neighborhood," Gallo told KRON4. Even if Thao's pay raise is approved, she won't be earning as much as San Francisco's mayor, London Breed. Breed rakes in $357,000 annually, according to data from the Californi...
