BETHLEHEM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Bethlehem residents are warned against a new phone scam in which the caller pretends to be a member of the Bethlehem Police Department. According to the police, the caller ID shows the call originates from the Bethlehem Police Department at (518) 439-9973. Police say there has been only one known incident regarding this scam. CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Wednesday, State Police arrested Dakota Smith, 28, of Malta. Smith, the owner of DAS Builders & Remodeling LLC., was charged with grand larceny in the third degree and scheme to defraud in the first degree. Investigations determined that Smith agreed to complete a home renovation project in November 2022. The victim paid Smith a deposit of more than $18,000, but Smith failed to begin the work or purchase the necessary materials for the project. The deposit was never returned to the victim.Smith surrendered himself to SP Clifton Park. ST. LOUIS -- A man's body was found near the intersection of 20th Street and Maiden Lane Wednesday at around 2:15 p.m. This is in the St. Louis Place neighborhood, near the park. The body of a California man has been identified more than 27 years after being found in a northwest Arizona desert area, authorities said Tuesday.Mohave County Sheriff’s officials said remains of a man between 30 and 40 years old were discovered near Kingman in January 1996. BERKELEY — A stabbing in front of a bank early Thursday hospitalized a man, and investigators were seeking help to find the suspect.Officers were called to the Chase Bank at 2390 Shattuck Ave. about 3:35 a.m. and found the man with numerous stab wounds, according to a police statement from Officer Jessica Perry.Perry in a text said the victim was stabbed outside the building and went inside a bank ATM shelter to call 911. The emergency call came within 30 minutes of the stabbing, she said.The man, who police said was in his 50s, went by ambulance to Highland Hospital in Oakland and was later listed in stable condition, according to authorities. Police found him inside the ATM area of the bank, which is at the bottom of an apartment complex.Police said they have not identified a suspect.
