By Nikki JamiesonSunny South NewsThe final phase of a street light improvement project in Coaldale has received approval to go forward.During their regular June 12 meeting, Coaldale town council received an update on a streetlight improvement project.The origins of the project date back to 2018, when town administration reached out to residents and Fortis on the issue, and council initially proceeded with upgrade in an area roughly one-fourth the size of the town, or 27 lights, for $298,000.The matter was brought back in 2019, when further options were made available through Fortis involving installing overhead lines rather than burying them, a change which resulted in significant savings for the project and allowing for the opportunity for further light installations across town. TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Police Department has launched investigations into four separate vehicle fires in Lansingburgh. Detectives have collected surveillance footage in the areas of incidents and are attempting to determine the identity of any potential suspect(s) and if the fires are related. There will be an increased police presence in Lansingburgh in response to the incidents.Police ask community members to review any surveillance video systems they may have to determine and report any suspicious activity. NORTH ELBA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Earlier this week, Department of Environmental Conservation Ranger O'Connor was notified of a lost dog on McKenzie Mountain. Ranger O'Connor spoke with the owner, who said they had to unclip their four-month-old puppy Wilson so he could get down a rock scramble, at which time the puppy ran off. The puppy spent the night in the woods but was located the next morning when it approached a group of hikers with a dog.The hikers leashed the puppy and contacted the owner, who alerted Ranger O'Connor. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A parolee was arrested Wednesday night for illegally possessing a handgun, according to the Albany Police Department. Marquis Dixon, 25, faces multiple charges. On Wednesday, around 9:15 p.m., Albany detectives responded near Orange and Dove Streets for reports of a man possessing a handgun. Detectives say they saw the suspect getting out of a car associated with the call and tried to speak with him. The suspect, identified as Dixon, ran from detectives on foot, according to police. He was eventually taken into custody, and detectives say he had a loaded 9mm handgun. Police say Dixon was released from prison in May following a previous conviction.
