The number on his jersey, 23, is often synonymous with sports greatness. Perhaps it’s fitting because Royce Lewis looks as if he’s on track to become the next Twins superstar. He has the makeup. He has the charisma. He has the talent. And if his rookie season has shown anything, he shines brightest when the spotlight is on.Lewis, whose inclusion on the postseason roster was in question because of a hamstring strain suffered in September, showed just how valuable he is to the team on Tuesday, clubbing two home runs in the Twins’ 3-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Though they’ve had a front seat to the Royce Lewis Show this season, the rookie is continuously impressing his teammates and those around him.“He was born for this, I think,” infielder Jorge Polanco said. “He’s very special to see in those moments. He doesn’t shy away from those moments. He loves it, and we love to see him in those moments.”It’s gotten to the point that whenever Lewis steps to the plate, his teammates ...Dane Mizutani: Get on the back of Royce Lewis. The boogeyman came for the Twins as soon as the game started on Tuesday afternoon at Target Field. After the leadoff hitter put the ball in play, the nightmares from the past couple of decades came flooding back when Jorge Polanco’s throw across the diamond pulled Alex Kirilloff off the bag. The mistake turned a routine grounder into the slightest crack in the foundation. That would’ve been enough for the house to come crashing down in the past. Not this time. This version of the Twins is built different.Because they have a legitimate superstar in Royce Lewis. Not a star. He’s a superstar in every sense of the word.In his playoff debut, Lewis hit a pair of home runs, providing all the offense for the Twins in a 3-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Why wouldn’t he? The moment has never proven to be too big for the 24-year-old wunderkind. The historic 18-game playoff losing streak wasn’t going to be either.“It was a blessing to play today,” Lewis ...“You better not lose”: Sonny Gray, with a chance to pitch Twins to ALDS, gets order from young son

Five-year-old Declan Gray, the younger of Sonny Gray’s two sons, had some important words of wisdom for the pitcher Tuesday morning. After asking if the Twins are in the playoffs and being told by his dad that yes, the Twins are indeed in the playoffs, Declan gave his father an order.“He said, “You better not lose,’” Sonny Gray said. “I was like, ‘You know what, Declan? I’m going to do my best.’ They shoot it to you straight. It’s what you love about them. It’s nice to have them around. And I guess that’s what we’ll do. We better not lose.”Gray will have the ball in his hands for Game 2 of the Wild Card Series, opposed by former Twin José Berríos, with a chance to pitch the Twins to the American League Division Series and a matchup against the Houston Astros. And the Twins couldn’t feel any more confident about handing the ball over to Gray, who has been the picture of consistency all season. The 33-year-old finished his year with a 2.79 earned-run average, third in the majors and se...Troy mayoral candidate forum held at RPI

SAN DIEGO — The range of emotions that will soon engulf Nuggets personnel on championship banner night is best filtered and summarized through three viewpoints. There’s Reggie Jackson, a child of Colorado Springs who’s still convinced he won’t be awake even as the 2022-23 Nuggets are being immortalized in the rafters of Ball Arena on Oct. 24. When new teammate and fellow NBA journeyman Justin Holiday became aware Jackson was a hometown kid — “that’s crazy,” he said — Jackson’s response was as simple as, “Yeah, I’m gonna wake up soon. Best dream ever, bro.”He keeps telling his brother the same thing. The 33-year-old first-time NBA champ definitively expects to cry.“There’s no way this can be real,” Jackson said. “I’m with a bunch of people that I made great bonds with over my career. Back home. In front of family. Yeah, I’m probably the happiest person on the team. Like I said, I never feel like this is real...Latest news
