Authorities from across California came together for a widespread crackdown of a "violent criminal street organization" in Los Angeles.Operation Safe Harbor targeted the unidentified gang, who were said to be responsible for operating a statewide drug and firearm trafficking network, and were also linked to a number of violent crimes.The sweeping investigation began on June 1, and on Sept. 28, seven search warrants were served at undisclosed locations in Los Angeles County. Police are asking for the public’s help in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 72-year-old man in West Covina back in August.The incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. Aug. 28 near the intersection of Glendora and Vine avenues. West Covina police officers responded to the area regarding a pedestrian lying in the roadway.An investigation revealed the pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene, police said.The pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he later died.Detectives located surveillance video that captured the incident and police describe the suspect vehicle as a white or silver SUV.Authorities released video of the incident on Tuesday in hopes of generating leads in the case.The video, however, was edited to exclude the moment of collision “out of respect for the victim and the victim’s family,” police said.Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Police Department’s traffic bureau at 626-939-8513.Season's first snow falls at Mammoth Mountain

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is warning the public of an increase in “phantom hacker” scams nationwide that target senior citizens. Officials warned that this type of scam is an “evolution of more general tech support scams” that can consist of three steps. “[Scammers] layer imposter support, financial institution and government personas to enhance the trust victims place in the scammers and identify the most lucrative accounts to target,” an FBI news release said. “Victims often suffer the loss of entire banking, savings, retirement or investment accounts under the guise of ‘protecting’ their assets.” According to the FBI release, 19,000 complaints related to tech support scams were submitted to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) between January and June of 2023. 27 suspected gang members arrested in California crackdown The estimated victim losses totaled over $542 million, the FBI said. Car Versus Pickup Truck Crash near Caruthers Left 69-Year-Old Man DeadFRESNO, CA (October 3, 2023) – Tuesday morning, a two-vehicle collision on Dinuba Avenue claimed the life of James Mattos.The deadly crash occurred around 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of Dinuba and West Avenue, just north of Caruthers.According to California Highway Patro, a Nissan Altima occupied by two men collided with the rear-end of a pickup truck.Upon impact, both vehicles went off the road and into an orchard, causing one of the vehicles to end up on its roof.Tragically, the truck driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. 43-Year-Old Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident near Mile 11 NorthWESLACO, TX (October 3, 2023) – On the morning of Saturday, September 23rd, Rames Gonzalez lost his life in a hit-and-run bicycle collision on Mile 4 West Road.Authorities arrived at the scene around 8:30 a.m., near Mile 11 North.According to law enforcement, a black pickup truck struck Gonzalez, who was pushing his bicycle in a northern direction. Chipotle Mexican Grill is collaborating with a Bay Area robotics company called Hyphen on a “digital makeline” to build salads and bowls.The invention is called a collaborative robot — also cobot or cobotic system — according to a news release. It is being tested at the Chipotle Cultivate Center, a test kitchen in Irvine, according to the restaurant chain.About 65% of Chipotle orders are for bowls or salads, the news release said. Digital orders for those items would be routed to the cobot, freeing up staff members to build burritos, tacos and quesadillas.A 30-second video shows the cobot in action. It cradles a bowl and runs it along an assembly line while ingredients such as rice and corn kernels pour out. A human assembles and wraps a burrito on the countertop in the same amount of time.
