San Francisco’s storied African American stage company the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre has been a mainstay of the Bay Area arts scene since 1981. Now at last the company is debuting a play about its namesake, the influential playwright Lorraine Hansberry.Hansberry’s best-known work, “A Raisin in the Sun,” in 1959 made her the first African American woman playwright to have a play on Broadway. It wouldn’t be her last: her play “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window” was running on Broadway in 1965 (starring Berkeley’s own Rita Moreno) when Hansberry died of pancreatic cancer at age 34.Still, many know little about Hansberry beyond “Raisin” — her life, her other writings and her civil rights activism are all too seldom explored today.Writer-performer Traci Tolmaire aims to rectify that with her new play “In the Evening by the Moonlight,” directed and co-created by Lorraine Hansberry Theatre artistic director Margo Hall. The play imagines a long, alcohol-fueled conversation between ...CHP issues Silver Alert for missing at-risk San Jose man

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) — Turkey’s president said Monday that any deal resolving Cyprus’ nearly half-century ethnic division must be based on recognition of a breakaway Turkish Cypriot state in the island nation’s northern third.President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks in the north during his first overseas visit after his reelection last month aren’t new, but suggest that Ankara’s policy line on Cyprus remains unwavering, despite international condemnation of the two-state deal proposal that runs contrary to U.N. resolutions calling for a single, federated Cyprus. “No one can bear to waste another 50 years of time,” Erdogan said during a joint news conference with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar. “If there is to be a return to the negotiating table, the only way to do this is to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.”It also dashes hopes harbored by Cyprus’ internationally-recognized government of a speedy return to negotiations, although a spokesman f...Australia vive una intensa temporada de gripe, y podría ser una señal de lo que se avecina en EE.UU.
