(NEXSTAR) — Recently, law enforcement agencies have been warning about a new iPhone feature, saying it could pose a privacy risk, especially to children. But the feature isn’t as alarming as it may seem.It’s known as NameDrop and was released as part of Apple’s latest major update, iOS 17. It allows you to share your contact information with someone who isn’t already in your contacts via an iPhone or Apple Watch.According to Apple, if you’re sharing your contact information using NameDrop, you’ll need to hold your device close to another iPhone or Apple Watch, then “choose to share your contact card and receive the other person’s, or to only receive the other person’s.”Before the NameDrop is complete, you can swipe the notification away, lock your phone, or pull your device away from the other to stop the process.  iPhone users, do you hate texting Androids? (NEWS10) — While many of us are looking forward to spending the holidays with our family not everyone gets to. A farm in Saratoga County is making an effort to give a special Christmas present to military members serving overseas. ‘Stuff the Bus’ toy drive 2023 in ColonieAs whipping wintry winds battered old glory, an assembly line of volunteers gathered at Ellms Farms in Ballston Spa for a good cause — sending 150 Christmas trees to servicemembers abroad. It's part of the annual Christmas tree drive they call Trees for Troops. This is the 19th year the program is taking place. Burnt Hills man arraigned for unlawful surveillance MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Ballston man was arraigned in the Malta Town Court for unlawful surveillance in the second degree. Ojay O. Smith, 29, is accused of installing a hidden camera in the bedroom of a female without her knowledge or permission. 24-year-old pleads guilty in fatal Northway crash case COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The 24-year-old involved in the fatal crash on I-87 on May 28, 2022, has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide. Vasu Laroiya of Iselin, New Jersey, faces eight and a third to 25 years in state prison. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Laroiya admitted to driving intoxicated and reaching speeds of up to 156 miles per hour. At the time of the crash, the defendant admitted he was on his cell phone, making a Snapchat video. Police investigating the case say Laroiya crashed into the back of a 2018 Honda Civic. The Civic struck a guard rail on the eastern shoulder and caught fire. The driver, Katie Fisher of Ballston Spa, succumbed to injuries at the Albany Medical Center. The indictment included charges of second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, reckless endangerment in the first-degree, DWI, and reckless driving. Sentencing is scheduled for January 26, 2024.

Homeless woman arrested in Mid-Wilshire murder A homeless woman has been arrested on a murder charge after she allegedly fatally shot a man whose Mid-Wilshire home she had broken into Monday night.The shooting was reported at about 6 p.m. in the 900 block of Alandele Avenue, and when officers arrived, they found the 33-year-old resident of a home in the area had been shot, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release. Isolated showers to hover over Southern California this week; light rain expected  After a dry start to the week, some rain is set to hit the region beginning Wednesday, weather officials said. According to the National Weather Service, a “dry day is on tap” for Tuesday, but an offshore front will move over the Central Coast before making its way to SoCal by Wednesday. “Rain chances will increase through the day Wednesday, then will wane away as the pattern turns showery into late Wednesday night and Thursday,” NWS said. Preliminary NWS forecasts indicate that most of the rain will fall in the Central Coast, with some communities in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties expected to see up to .2 inches. Further to the south and east, Ventura and Los Angeles counties will see less rain; projections range from .04 inches in Oxnard to .12 inches in Avalon on Catalina Island. There is a small threat of snow on the 5 Freeway near the Tejon Pass, NWS said. With the increased rain and clouds comes cooler temperatures for nearly all of SoCal, according ...
