NBA reveals long-awaited plans for in-season tournament that’ll start in November

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Coming soon: the NBA Cup.The NBA unveiled the details Saturday of its inaugural in-season tournament, which will have a prize pool of about $18 million and will be capped by a championship game — which won’t count in the standings — in Las Vegas on Dec. 9. It’s an event that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver wanted for years, giving teams a trophy to play for during the regular season.And now, it’s finally reality.“This is a concept that has been rumbling around the league office for about 15 years,” Silver said. “It’s not a new concept in sports. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Michael Conforto and Austin Slater hit two-run homers to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.Blake Sabol added an RBI single as San Francisco evened the three-game series at a game apiece. The Giants have won 12 of their last 13 games against the Rockies.Ryan Walker started for the Giants and surrendered two runs in two innings. Alex Wood (4-3) tossed five scoreless innings in relief to earn his first home win of the season. DENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver Police Department said two people were arrested in connection to the deadly shooting of a motorcyclist on Interstate 70 near Colorado Boulevard on July 4. Cesar Ramirez-Rivera, 21, and Nelson Miranda-Rivas, 25, are being held for investigation of first-degree murder, DPD said. Motorcyclist killed in crash in Montbello neighborhood The shooting happened around 1 a.m. and was initially reported as a crash. When police began the investigation, it was determined the motorcyclist had been shot. He later died at the hospital. A car went up in flames after crashing into a palm tree in a residential neighborhood in Southwest Miami-Dade, sending two people to the hospital.Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene of the crash in the area of South Meadow Lake Drive and Southwest 43rd Terrace in Kendall, at around 5:30 p.m., Thursday.Paramedics transported both victims to an area hospital, one as a trauma alert.The cause of the crash remains under investigation.7-on-7 tournament held in Miami as part of sports camp held by Rams’ Atwell

It was a weekend of sports and cheerleading in Miami to benefit a community.A 7-on-7 invitational featuring students from 12 high schools went down Saturday morning at Charles Hadley Park.The event was part of a weekend-long sports camp held by Miami native and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Chatarius “Tutu” Atwell.“We’ve been out here. A workshop being held at the University of Miami in Coral Gables aims to teach aspiring students about journalism.On Saturday afternoon, 7News anchor Craig Stevens hosted a session as part of the Miami Montage, a two-week workshop that invites high school students to produce videos and blogs and develop a passion for journalism.“I’m much better prepared going forward. City of Miami Police held a tribute for fallen veteran police Officer Joel Perez.Police and members of the community honored the law enforcement veteran’s life with the Car, Bike Show and Sound Off event, held Saturday at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center.Proceeds will benefit the children Perez leaves behind.Perez died after an unexpected medical emergency back in February.
