ATHENS — Greece’s conservatives won big on Sunday’s parliamentary elections, securing an outright majority. Far-right parties also made gains, while the left struggled, giving Greece’s parliament its most rightward slant since the restoration of democracy in 1974.The New Democracy party of Kyriakos Mitsotakis managed to widen its double-digit lead over its main rival, the left-wing Syriza party, and secured 158 seats in the country’s 300-seat parliament, under the new electoral system which awards the winning party 50 bonus seats.“Our goals are high and must be high in a second term that can transform Greece with dynamic growth rates that will raise wages and reduce inequalities,” Mitsotakis said in his first message from his party’s headquarters.“People gave us a safe majority. The major reforms will therefore proceed with speed as this is the choice of the Greek people and I will honor it in full.”Sunday’s elections were the second held in the country...Changes are coming for star-studded Bruins

Several Bruins are gathering in Nashville for Monday night’s NHL Awards show and some will no doubt walk away with the hardware for the incredible regular season the team had.But just below the surface was not only the lingering pain of how that historic season ended far too early, but also that the salary crunch the club is facing will in some way break up that team.We could know how drastically it’s broken up this week when the draft is held at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday and Thursday and free agency opens on Saturday. The B’s have just under $5 million in cap space with only seven forwards and one goalie signed. Players will have to be moved to rebuild a team that will inevitably have less depth than the 2022-23 B’s did.One of those players could be one of the honorees in Nashville. Goalie Linus Ullmark is the favorite for the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goalie, but the B’s goaltending tandem with Jeremy Swayman – a restricted free age...Kayaker found dead in the Merrimack River in Haverhill: Massachusetts State Police

GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — Polling centers closed and poll workers began tallying ballots across Guatemala on Sunday evening to determine hundreds of congressional and local races, but the big presidential field was expected only to be narrowed and require a runoff. While some isolated incidents reportedly interrupted the vote in some localities, voting appeared to have been orderly and peaceful in much of the country. Many Guatemalans expressed disappointment with their presidential choices after three opposition candidates were excluded by authorities. A large number of null ballots were expected, and experts said it could depress turnout. With none of the 22 presidential candidates polling near the required 50% threshold for winning outright, a second round of voting on Aug. 20 between the top two finishers was almost certain. At a polling place in central Guatemala City, a bell tolled and people cheered as voting closed with few still in line waiting their turn to cast ballots.Alejandro...Latest news
