MADRID (AP) — Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has joined former NBA great Steve Nash as a minority owner of Spanish first-division soccer club Mallorca.Tuesday’s announcement came a few months after Mallorca restructured its ownership, with club president Andy Kohlberg acquiring the shares of former Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver to become majority owner.“I’m a friend of Andy Kohlberg and we were talking this summer,” Kerr said. “He told me about the change in ownership, and offered me the chance to be part of the new investment group. I’m really looking forward to it, I was in Mallorca last summer to watch a match, supporting the team and becoming a fan. It’s a very exciting opportunity.”Kerr will be the coach of the U.S. team at the basketball World Cup that begins Friday in the Philippines.Related ArticlesGolden State Warriors | Is Steph Curry the best point guard ever? By Costas Kantouris and Elena Becatoros | Associated PressALEXANDROUPOLIS, Greece — Firefighters on Tuesday found the burnt bodies of 18 people believed to have been migrants who had crossed the Turkish border into an area of northeastern Greece where wildfires have raged for days. The discovery near the city of Alexandroupolis came as hundreds of firefighters battled dozens of wildfires across the country amid gale-force winds. On Monday, two people died and two firefighters were injured in separate fires in northern and central Greece. With their hot, dry summers, southern European countries are particularly prone to wildfires. Another major blaze has been burning across Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands for a week, although no injuries or damage to homes was reported.European Union officials have blamed climate change for the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires in Europe, noting that 2022 was the second-worst year for wildfire damage on record after 2017.In Greece, pol...49ers’ Kyle Shanahan addresses Nick Bosa’s holdout as it nears one-month mark

SANTA CLARA — Still no Nick Bosa? Correct, and still no panic from 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.“No, it’s going pretty much exactly how I expected it to go,” Shanahan said Tuesday, before the penultimate practice of a Bosa-less training camp.If Shanahan had such a strong feeling Bosa’s contract stalemate would drag on this close to the regular-season opener (Sept. 10 in Pittsburgh), then when does he feel a deal will be reached?“Hopefully sooner than later,” Shanahan said without a hint of anger.Bosa has been on the roster’s reserve list since not reporting to camp July 25. Shanahan said he hasn’t kept in touch with him since then, and Bosa has stayed out of the public eye while presumably training on his own in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he works out in the offseasons.Bosa did post an Instagram picture earlier Tuesday from a skyscraper amid New York City, perhaps signaling that business is picking up between his agent, Brian Ayrault an...Sale closed in Los Gatos: $2.5 million for a six-bedroom home

A person holds up a sign reading “Trans People Belong in Alabama” during a rally outside the Statehouse in Montgomery, Ala., on International Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31, 2023.Photo: Kim Chandler/APThree Trump-appointed federal judges ruled on Monday to allow one of the country’s harshest bans on gender-affirming care for minors to go into effect. In Alabama, a doctor who treats a trans person under 19 years old with puberty blockers or hormones could now face felony charges carrying up to 10 years in prison. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision reverses an injunction that temporarily blocked the health care ban and stands at odds with the majority of federal court decisions on the issue so far. The disturbing ruling gives the clearest outline yet of the reactionary judicial logic that could be used to decimate trans peoples’ right to necessary health care, should the issue be taken up by the far-right Supreme Court: the very same reasoning used...World-record hurdler Amusan never had doubt she’d be at worlds to defend title

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — History’s fastest 100-meter hurdler waved to the crowd, crouched into the starting block, cruised through her preliminary heat at world championships, then acted like she had no idea what all the fuss was about. To everyone outside of Tobi Amusan’s inner circle, making it to worlds to begin defense of her title Tuesday and maybe even improve on her world record later in the week was never a sure thing. The Nigerian hurdler’s status was in limbo until she received a favorable decision late last week in a case involving missed doping tests.“I’m here competing and that’s all that matters. Next,” she said when asked whether the uncertainty had bothered her.Was she planning on coming to worlds the whole time, even after she learned last month that she had been accused by regulators of an anti-doping violation for missing three tests over 12 months?“Was I planning to come and defend my title?” she said. “Next question.”Last year at worl...Latest news
