British Columbia remains under a state of emergency after thousands of people were evacuated from their homes because of nearby wildfires, including the blazes on either side of Lake Okanagan in the Interior. CHICAGO -- A woman is in critical condition after she fell out of a third story window in the Uptown neighborhood Saturday afternoon. Police said the 31-year-old woman fell out of a window in the 4900-block of North Kenmore Avenue around 12:40 p.m. and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. ‘She wanted to be a dental hygenist:’ Grandmother remembers granddaughter after fatal West Side shooting A preliminary investigation indicates that the woman may have been pushed, causing her to fall out of the window. CHICAGO — Two teens were shot in the Austin neighborhood late Saturday afternoon, and one is dead, according to multiple sources.The Chicago Police Department said a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were in a park in the 5700 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue around 4:10 p.m. when they were both shot by an unknown gunman. The 17-year-old girl, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Ashuntice Wilburn, was shot in the buttocks and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where she later died."She wanted to be a dental hygienist," said Patty Ringo, Ashuntice's grandmother. "She helped me with all kinds of activities ... She volunteered in the community, she was an exceptional person, [an] exceptional individual." (KTLA) – Authorities in Southern California are investigation a shooting that led to the alleged abduction of a woman. According to the Whittier Police Department, officers responded to the parking stalls of a park in the city late Saturday night after a man reported that an armed suspect approached his vehicle -- occupied by him and a female passenger -- and fired gunshots in their direction. “The male witness ran from the location and upon his return, discovered blood near his vehicle and [that] his female companion was missing,” the department said.The missing female was identified as 19-year-old Andrea Vasquez. (KTLA) – An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 shook the Los Angeles area Sunday afternoon, just as Tropical Storm Hilary was drenching the region with torrential rain.The quake struck at 2:45 p.m. and was centered two miles east-southeast of Ojai in Ventura County at a depth of one kilometer, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A former Missouri respiratory therapist who pleaded guilty in the deaths of two hospital patients has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.Jennifer Hall was initially charged with two counts of first-degree murder but pleaded guilty in April to reduced first-degree involuntary manslaughter counts in the deaths of 75-year-old Fern Franco and 37-year-old David Wesley Harper. She also pleaded guilty to one count of attempted second-degree assault. She was sentenced Friday, KCTV-TV reported.Franco and Harper were among nine patients who died at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe over several months in 2002 in what charging documents describe as “medically suspicious” events.“A sentence 20 years in the making,” Livingston County Prosecuting Attorney Adam Warren said in a statement.
