Alaska mayor wants to send homeless people to L.A.  The mayor of Anchorage, Alaska – the state’s largest city – floated the idea of sending some of the city’s homeless population to Los Angeles and other cities with more temperate climates earlier this week. Mayor Dave Bronson first brought the idea up at a news conference on Tuesday, saying that plane tickets would be purchased for unhoused people to send them to cities where they have families who can care for them or where the climate is warmer, according to the L.A. Times. No funding has been approved yet for the relocation program, but Mayor Bronson believes that funding won’t be hard to come by. At Tuesday’s news conference, Bronson said that 11 individuals “exercised [the] option” to be transported to the “lower 48 states” last summer through a program affiliated with the Salvation Army in 2022. “This last year was the deadliest year in history for people who are homeless dying on the streets [in Anchorage] ...and now this coming winter, we are looking at possibly even do...

Death of woman at Oakland homeless camp being investigated as a homicide OAKLAND — A woman found dead Friday afternoon inside an RV at a West Oakland homeless camp had traumatic injuries to her body, and the death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Saturday. The name of the woman, believed to be in her 40s, has not yet been released.She was found about 3:07 p.m. Friday inside the vehicle which was parked at an encampment in the 1400 block of 13th Street between Mandela Parkway and Center Street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.Cause of death and when it occurred will be determined by an autopsy. But because of the traumatic injuries to her body, police are investigating the death as a homicide. Three men shot in Oakland in a single hour OAKLAND — Three men were shot — two during a drive-by attack and the other in a road rage incident — in just over an hour Friday night in different areas of the city, authorities said.The drive-by shooting happened about 9:20 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of 83rd Avenue in East Oakland. A 30-year-old man and a 46-year-old man were outside working on a truck, when a dark SUV drove by and someone inside the vehicle began shooting at them, authorities said.Both men were wounded at least once. The 30-year-old man was in critical condition at a hospital, and the younger man was in stable condition, police said.Some residences in the area were hit by gunfire but no other injuries were reported.The SUV drove away before police got to the scene.
