Cool and cloudy Thursday

Cool and cloudy Thursday 7Weather – It’s been another day with some showers rotating around New England. High temperatures stayed in the 50s for a lot of us. If that felt cool, wait for tomorrow! Temperatures will likely be stuck in the 40s. We’ll keep the drizzle and clouds around the next couple of days. More sun and milder temperatures return this weekend (yay!).The upper level low that’s been rotating showers around our region will be east and offshore tomorrow. We’ll be on the backside of it, and that will bring us a northeast wind. Expect a raw day! Sunrise is at 5:36 a.m. tomorrow morning. Starting your morning, it will feel cool in the low/mid 40s with a lot of clouds and patchy drizzle. The northeast breeze and an overcast sky will keep high temperatures chilly. The best we will do are the upper 40s/near 50°. If that seems awfully chilly for May, you’re right! Upper 40s for highs are more reminiscent of late March. Our forecast for Boston is a near-record cold hi...

Ravens, cornerback Rock Ya-Sin agree to 1-year deal Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said after last season that his team can never have enough good cornerbacks, a stance that he has reiterated throughout the offseason.Adding one before next season was also a priority, and on Wednesday the Ravens did, agreeing to terms with cornerback Rock Ya-Sin. The deal is for one year and up to $6 million, according to multiple reports.“It’s an important position,” DeCosta said Saturday during the NFL draft. “What we’ve seen is you can never have enough good corners to start the season and throughout the season. That’s a fast way to get beat, is to not have enough corners on the field.”Indeed.The Ravens have All-Pro Marlon Humphrey on one side but there was uncertainty at the other starting spot after they did not re-sign veteran Marcus Peters. Now they have bolstered the position with the addition of Ya-Sin, a second-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2019 who spent last season with the Raiders a...

Oregon Republicans stay home ahead of abortion, guns votes SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Republican state senators in Oregon didn’t show up to work on Wednesday, denying the Democrats who control the chamber a quorum and casting doubt on planned votes later this week on legislation pertaining to gun control, abortion rights and gender-affirming health care. The office of Democratic Senate President Rob Wagner said 10 Republican senators and the chamber’s lone independent were absent, and that four of the Republicans and the independent were absent without an excuse. The so-called walkout prevented the state Senate from having a quorum and holding its scheduled session. Senate Republicans said they were protesting over bill summaries not being written in plain language. They based their boycott on a 1979 state law that requires summaries of bills to be readable by those with an eighth or ninth-grade education, said GOP Senate minority leader Tim Knopp.Asked if the Republican boycott was due to the bills on gun control and abortion and gender...

Canada has nothing to fear from U.S. protectionist rhetoric, envoy to Ottawa insists WASHINGTON — Canada threw a “hissy fit” over President Joe Biden’s original plan to boost the sales of American-made electric vehicles, the U.S. envoy to Ottawa said Wednesday as he insisted that his country is not out to undermine its largest trading partner. The stated goal of David Cohen’s appearance at the Wilson Center’s Canada Institute in Washington, D.C., was to finally put to rest the persistent Canadian fear that’s conjured every time his boss utters the words “Buy American.” But his characterization of Canada’s months-long, ultimately successful bid to be carved in to Biden’s tax-credit scheme, which originally reserved the sweetest plums for union-built vehicles assembled in the U.S., is likely to raise some eyebrows.“Canada, using a technical term, threw a hissy fit,” Cohen said of the reaction, upon his arrival in Ottawa in December 2021, to Biden’s original suite of tax incentives. He said he...
