Havok and Toxic Holocaust Thrash Up the Regent: It’s a new school thrash metal party at the Regent, as one of Denver’s finest exports — Havok — join forces Portland’s Toxic Holocaust. Both bands found their feet as the ‘90s were becoming the ‘00s, but in metal terms that’s still “new school.” That said, both pedal in the sort of high energy, uncompromising thrash that was flourishing in the ‘80s. Regardless, it’s gonna be wild. This writer spoke to Havok in 2017, when frontman David Sanchez said, “Our musical tastes have become more eclectic, and we’re way more experienced as far as touring and how the business works. As far as the early material goes, I think for the time it was cool, but there’s definitely a lot more maturity in our sound and presentation nowadays.”“A lot of people are associating us with Colorado, which is awesome, because I’m from there and I think we have a really cool scene,” he continued.” I’m more than happy to fly the flag high. Oakley took another step toward relocating its library to downtown with a plan that would have a developer help pay for building the repository at the Civic Center campus. On Tuesday the unanimously council agreed to spend $60,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to hire a consultant, Urban Field Studio, to research financing and site planning alternatives and draw a concept design for the library portion of the project.Under the plan, a high-density, multi-family housing project would be built on the city block bound by O’Hara Avenue, Acme, Second and Ruby streets where the sheriffs patrol substation was once located, the developer of which would also build the library but at the site of the city’s corporation yard at the Civic Center. Though no developer has come forth yet, the city manager earlier said some had expressed interest in such a project. In January of this year, another consultant, Baker Tilly, presented an initial analysis and the council then directed staff to move fo...Oakland mayor Sheng Thao quietly met with MLB commissioner at All-Star Game: reports

Alex Hruzewicz mentally juggles dozens of ever-changing questions while skippering a 41-foot keelboat named Believe along the San Francisco Bay.What’s the best moment to unfurl sails in 15 knot winds? How fast are the currents moving? Is there enough clearance for the rudder? Are any ferries barreling towards the boat? Will the tides be high enough to dock? Is there enough pressure on the lines?“It’s a dance with Mother Nature,” Hruzewicz said, tacking into the shifting gusts using the boat’s electric winches as he sails back to Pier 40 at the Embarcadero. “You can play with the wind and waves. There’s an adrenaline rush and a peacefulness — there’s not much like it.”Nettie Wijsman, from Menlo Park, a member with Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors (BAADS), sits as Alex Hruzewicz, bosun, prepares the sailboat named “Believe” for “Sunday Keelboat Sailing” at the South Beach Harbor in downtown San Francisco, Calif., on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
